Yes, for most 2007 through 2024 Hyundais. The procedure is the same across Sonata, Elantra, Tucson, Santa Fe, and Palisade: OBD-II port, 6-digit security PIN out of the ECM, then new keys taught through the immobilizer menu. Three programmers in the van handle it, OBDStar X300, Xhorse Mini OBD, and Autel IM608, and the entire job runs at your car. The exception is some 2024 and newer IONIQ platform models with cloud-authenticated immobilizers, which may need dealer server access; we verify the VIN before dispatching.

Comes down to ignition type. Key-start 2011-2022 Hyundais are the configuration that got targeted, because the US-market versions shipped without an electronic immobilizer and could be cranked with basic tools after a steering column compromise. Any push-button start Hyundai, even from the same model years, carries an immobilizer as part of the smart key system and was never in scope. Hyundai brought all new US models under a standard immobilizer from November 2021 forward. For a key-start Hyundai in the 2011-2022 range, the VIN check on Hyundai's anti-theft site is the first step, both the free software update and the free hardware fix flow from that.

Software side, available since February 2023: alarm duration jumps to one minute, an ignition kill engages every time you lock with the fob, and the fob has to deactivate the kill before the car will crank. Hardware side: a zinc-reinforced sleeve gets installed around the ignition cylinder, making the steering column compromise harder to execute. Owner notifications for the hardware fix started in early 2026 with a March 2027 installation deadline. Both are no-charge through any Hyundai dealer, and the VIN check on Hyundai's anti-theft site confirms eligibility.

On pre-2007 Hyundais with earlier immobilizer architecture, a master key ignition cycle sequence was sometimes possible with two existing working keys in hand. Anything modern, meaning any current electronic immobilizer or smart key Hyundai, blocks owner self-programming entirely. The 6-digit PIN has to come out of the ECM through professional OBD-II equipment. No ignition cycle dance works on a current Tucson, Elantra, or Santa Fe.
