Hyundai built the Ioniq 5 from the ground up on the E-GMP electric platform, and the key system reflects that. Your 2022 or 2023 uses a 3-button smart key fob with a CR2032 battery, push-button start, and an advanced immobilizer that requires server authentication to program. No on-board shortcuts exist for this one.
1G Facelift (CE2a)
Hyundai refreshed the infotainment and interior for 2024, but the key system stayed the same underneath. Still a 3-button smart key, still CR2032-powered, still server-authenticated programming. The immobilizer did not change, so the programming process is identical to the 2022-2023 models.
1G Major Update
This is where things got interesting. The 2025 and 2026 models added Digital Key 2 Premium on higher trims, letting you use your phone as a key via NFC. The physical smart key fob is still 3-button with a CR2032 battery, and programming still requires Hyundai server authentication. Same security backbone, more tech layered on top.
What Key Does Your IONIQ-5 Actually Use?
A slim rectangular proximity fob that unlocks your doors as you approach and starts the car with the push button. Runs on a single CR2032 coin cell battery that typically lasts 1-2 years.
Same smart key design as the earlier models. Proximity unlock, push-button start, CR2032 battery. Identical programming requirements.
Same physical fob as earlier years. Higher trims may also use Digital Key 2 via your phone, but the standard smart key fob is still your primary key and the one we replace.

Can You Program a IONIQ-5 Key on Your Own?
No self-programming option exists. The Ioniq 5 requires Hyundai GDS tools and live server authentication to pair a new smart key. This is not something you can do at home with any number of existing keys.
Same as the earlier models. Server-based authentication means the car has to talk to Hyundai's servers during programming. No DIY workaround exists.
Still no self-programming. The advanced immobilizer and server authentication requirement carries through every Ioniq 5 year. You need professional tools and a Hyundai GDS subscription for this one.
