Next-Gen Encryption
The XE adopted next-generation encryption that requires the programming tool to authenticate through Jaguar's security server in real-time. No offline programming possible for new keys.

Following industry-wide relay theft concerns, Jaguar updated the XE's smart key system with motion-sensor fob deactivation and reduced broadcast range when stationary.

Unified Fob Era
Jaguar unified the XE's remote and transponder into a single remote-head key. The transponder chip moved from the key blade into the fob body, and a flip blade provided the physical key function.
Which Key Does Your XE Have?
A high-security key blank with grooves cut into the flat side of the blade rather than the edge. These require specialized cutting equipment and are harder to duplicate. Found on Jaguar XE models with enhanced security.
A rectangular fob you keep in your pocket. The Jaguar XE detects it automatically — walk up, grab the handle, push the button to start. No inserting a key. This is the most common type on newer XE models.
A key with a transponder chip but no remote buttons. You get immobilizer security (the car will not start without a programmed chip) but no remote lock/unlock. A separate fob can be added for remote functions.

XE Key Fob Range Has Decreased
A Jaguar XE key fob that only works when you are standing right next to the car usually has a low battery. Replace the battery first. If range is still poor, the fob's antenna or internal circuit may be damaged.
XE Doors Not Locking or Unlocking Remotely
If your Jaguar XE key fob buttons are unresponsive but the car starts normally, the RF transmitter portion of the fob may have failed while the transponder chip still works. Try replacing the battery. If buttons still do not work, the fob may need replacement.
Push Button Start Not Responding on XE
The push-button start system on the Jaguar XE requires the key fob to be within range of the internal antenna. If pressing the button does nothing, check the fob battery first. If the battery is good, the start button switch or antenna ring may need service.
Can You Program a XE Key Yourself?
Jaguar XE: Self-programming is NOT available. This generation requires OBD-II programming with a security PIN from the vehicle's ECU. A professional locksmith or dealer is required.
Jaguar XE: This model uses encrypted smart key communication that requires server-authenticated programming. No DIY or on-board method exists.
Jaguar XE: The older key system on this generation supports self-add with two existing keys. If you only have one key, professional service is required.
