Your B-Series Key System, Explained
UN Series Era: Texas 4D + PATS
Your B-Series runs a Texas 4D transponder chip molded into the key head. The chip handshakes with the Ford PATS immobilizer every crank, and if the signal does not match, the engine refuses to fire. Simple, reliable system that we register through the OBD-II port under your dash.
B2500: I4 Models
Your 2.5L four-cylinder B2500 carries the same Texas 4D chip and PATS system as the rest of the lineup. The ignition cylinder on these trucks is a known wear point, so if your key feels rough going in, mention that on the call. We program through OBD-II and carry the right blanks on every truck.
B3000/B4000: V6 Models
Your 3.0L or 4.0L V6 shares the same Texas 4D transponder and PATS security as the B2500. Higher trims sometimes came with an optional three-button remote fob for keyless entry. We verify your exact PATS type with diagnostics before cutting anything, so no surprises.
Identify Your B-Series Key
A standard metal key with a thick plastic head. The transponder chip lives inside that head and communicates with your truck's PATS system every time you start it.
Same style as the rest of the B-Series. No buttons, no battery. The chip molded into the head fires the engine.
Same transponder key as the B2500 across the V6 trims. Higher trims sometimes shipped with a separate remote fob for door cylinders, but the ignition key stays buttonless.

B-Series Key Problems We Solve in SD
Transponder Chip Failure
First check is the transponder signal. Your Texas 4D chip degrades over time, especially on high-mileage trucks baked in two decades of Southern California heat. We read what's left, clone to a fresh key, running on the spot.
Ignition Cylinder Wear
Owners blame the key when the real problem is the cylinder. Past 20+ years of daily use, the ignition cylinder on B-Series trucks binds. We replace the cylinder on-site and cut a fresh transponder key to match.
PATS Module Antenna Ring Failure
Truck cranks some mornings, refuses others. That intermittent pattern usually points at the PATS antenna ring, the coil that reads your transponder. When it fails the signal drops. We carry replacements and swap on-site in Mira Mesa or Carmel Valley.
DIY a B-Series Key? Reality Check
No. The PATS transponder system on your B-Series requires professional diagnostic tools to register a fresh key. Cannot be done at home without specialized equipment.
If your truck has the optional keyless entry remote, you can pair that yourself. Turn the ignition OFF to RUN eight times within ten seconds, wait for the door cylinders to cycle, press a button on the remote within 20 seconds. That only handles the remote functions, not the transponder.
