Transponder and Remote Arrive
A remote head key with an ID47 transponder chip and three buttons for lock, unlock, and trunk. Honda added its immobilizer system here, so the key has to be programmed to your car's computer before it will start the engine. We handle that with on-board programming right in your driveway.
Type SH Gets Dual Chip Options
A remote head key with either an ID47 or Texas 4D transponder chip, three buttons, and a CR2025 battery. The BB8 platform, including the Type SH with its ATTS system, uses Honda's immobilizer and can require OBD-II programming depending on the chip. We carry the tools to handle both chip types on every call.

Remote Programming Erases Others
Program a new remote and your others stop working? Normal on 1997-2001 Prelude: programming mode wipes all stored remotes. Every fob needs reprogramming in the same session. Simi Valley with three remotes and only one works? Call (805) 790-8162.
Transponder Key Failure
The transponder chip in your 1998-2001 Prelude key can wear out or get damaged. Immobilizer cannot read it and the car cranks but will not start. We check chip signal with our tools first; sometimes the ignition coil receiver is the issue, not the key.
Dealer vs. Factory Remote Incompatibility
First we check: was your keyless entry factory or dealer installed? Honda used totally different programming for each; mixing them up causes failures. Shops in Oxnard and Camarillo have tried wrong procedures. We identify which you have first.
Immobilizer Battery Drain
1998-2001 Prelude dying overnight? Not always the alternator or battery. A faulty immobilizer or damaged transponder can create parasitic drain. Rare, but we see it. We test the system and program a fresh key if the transponder is the culprit.
Can You Program a Prelude Key Yourself?
These years use a plain mechanical key with no transponder. There is nothing to program. You just need the key cut to match your ignition, which we do on-site.
You can pair keyless entry remotes yourself using an ignition cycle procedure. Turn the ignition to ON, press a button on the remote, turn to LOCK, and repeat three times. The door cylinders will cycle to confirm. But this only programs the remote buttons. It does not program the transponder chip, and it erases all previously stored remotes, so have every fob ready.
Transponder chip programming on the 1997-2001 Prelude requires professional tools like the Autel IM608 or EEPROM access. There is no DIY procedure for the immobilizer. That is where we come in.
