Over near the Oxnard Transit Center, a man called about his 2001 Honda Prelude. He used a cane, lived in an independent living complex, and the idea of getting himself to a Honda dealer was more than an inconvenience. His daughter usually drove him places but she was out of town. He had one key left and the separate remote was getting flaky. He wanted a spare before the whole thing quit on him.
I got to his building that morning. The Prelude uses an HO01 keyway, edge-cut, nothing fancy on the mechanical side. I decoded the lock with my Lishi HO01 pick/decoder right at the driver door, verified the bitting, and cut a fresh key on site. The transponder side is a T5 chip that talks to the immobilizer control unit through the ring antenna around the ignition cylinder. Programmed the new chip through OBD, confirmed the green immobilizer light on the dash cycled off after the key turned, and the engine fired clean.
His separate remote, a three-button unit with lock, unlock, and panic, I paired that at the same time. Then I showed him how to pop the back cover and check the coin cell battery so he would know before it went dead again.
He never left his building. Didn't have to call his daughter or figure out a ride to a dealer across town. Just walked out to the parking lot with his cane, watched the whole thing, and drove his Prelude around the lot to test it himself.
