AP1 Early
On-board programming makes this one straightforward. Your early AP1 uses a standard blade transponder key with a CR2025 battery and three buttons for lock, unlock, and panic. Honda's immobilizer system checks the transponder chip every time you turn the ignition, so a plain metal copy will not start the car.
AP1 Late
On-board programming carries over from the earlier AP1 with no changes to the key system. Same standard blade, same CR2025 battery, same three-button remote, same Honda immobilizer. If you already know the early S2000 key, this one is identical in every way that matters.
AP2
On-board programming stays consistent through the final generation. Honda switched to the AP2 platform for more power and a revised suspension, but the key system carried over unchanged. Standard blade, CR2025 battery, three buttons, and the same Honda immobilizer that requires proper transponder pairing to start.
Which Key Does Your S2000 Use?
A traditional metal key with a built-in transponder chip in the head and a separate three-button remote fob. The key starts the car; the fob handles locks and panic.

Key Fob Programming Failures
S2000 owners think the fob is broken when the real issue is timing. The programming sequence needs each step within five seconds. Miss the window and it fails silently. We walk you through it or handle it on-site in Simi Valley or anywhere in the county.
Aftermarket Fob Incompatibility
First we check the FCC ID on the back of your remote. Cheap Amazon and eBay fobs often have wrong frequency or mismatched ID; no reprogramming fixes wrong hardware. FCC ID reads NHW010, you are good. Otherwise, that is your problem.
Immobilizer Key Sync Loss
Transponder can lose sync with the ECU after a battery swap or botched remote programming. Not fixable with the ignition sequence; pairing requires pro tools and your Honda PIN. Mostly 2004-2009. We handle it on-site with our programming equipment.
Can You Program an S2000 Key Yourself?
You can program the remote buttons yourself using the ignition ON, press LOCK, ignition OFF sequence repeated three times. But the transponder chip that actually starts the car requires professional tools and a Honda PIN code, so you will need us for that part.
Same deal as the earlier AP1. Remote programming is DIY with the ignition sequence, but transponder programming needs a locksmith. Important: the procedure erases all existing remotes, so have every fob you own in hand before you start.
