2002 Honda S2000 MECHANICAL-KEY Replacement - Fast, Affordable & Professional

Over near Rincon Beach Park in Carpinteria, a woman flagged me down on a Saturday. She told me another locksmith had already come out for her 2002 Honda S2000. He cut a key, charged her full price, and the car would crank but die after two seconds. Classic immobilizer rejection. He told her the module was bad and left.

The module was fine. His IMMO learn procedure was the problem.

Honda's first-gen immobilizer on the AP1-chassis S2000 needs a full security handshake through the OBD-II port. The timed countdown has to run completely. If you rush it or pull the tool early, the ECU accepts the key data into temporary memory but never commits it. So the car starts for a heartbeat, the immobilizer rechecks, finds no permanent registration, and kills fuel injection.

I used my HON66 Lishi to verify his mechanical cut was at least correct. It was. Then I connected my IM608 through OBD, cleared the failed key data from his attempt, and ran a clean IMMO registration with the full timer. Waited it out. The ID13 transponder wrote to permanent memory and the engine held idle with no cutoff.

I showed her the confirmation screen on the IM608 so she could see the key was registered. She just stared at the dash for a second, like she was waiting for it to quit again.

It did not quit. She drove home. The first locksmith's fee was money gone, but at least the car was running right.
