2006 Honda S2000 Transponder Key Replacement - Fast, Affordable & Professional
Got a call from a guy over near Port Hueneme Beach Park who'd picked up a 2006 S2000 as a weekend car. Previous owner gave him one key. One. For a car Honda stopped making in 2009, that's a problem waiting to happen.
He wanted a spare before something went wrong. Smart move.
I pulled up, decoded his HO01 keyway right off the driver door, and cut the HD113 blank on my mobile machine. The mechanical side on these is simple but the tolerances matter. The S2000 ignition cylinder is picky about a clean cut.
Then the chip side. The 2006 S2000 uses Honda's immobilizer with a T5 transponder, sometimes listed as ID 13. I connected my IM608 to the OBD-II port under the dash, accessed the immobilizer module on the 38 pin connector side, and ran the key registration. Honda's system on this generation requires a security countdown before it accepts a new transponder. Not long, but you wait.
After registration, I tested. Three clean starts in a row, key in, key out, key in again. Then I had him do it. He turned it over the first time and just sat there with the engine running, nodding.
He told me the dealer quoted him weeks of wait time and a tow-in because they wanted the car on-site. I did it in his driveway in about 40 minutes for a fraction of what they wanted.
