Got a call from a guy near the Carpinteria Salt Marsh Nature Park who had a 2001 Honda S2000 sitting dead in a coin laundry parking lot. He told me he'd already been burned. Found a locksmith off one of those low-price Google ads, the tech showed up and charged way more than the quote, and the key he cut would barely turn the cylinder. I drove out, pulled up the immobilizer data through the OBD-II port with my Smart Pro, and saw the issue right away. The other tech had registered the transponder but the chip write was incomplete. The T5 chip was only partially cloned. I wiped it, rewrote the transponder value to match the ECU seed, and cut a clean blade on the HPC to proper Honda depth specs.
He sat on a bench watching the whole thing. When the S2000 fired up clean on the first turn with no blinking key light, he just nodded slowly, like he was deciding whether to trust it. I told him to start it five more times. He did. Every single one was instant.
Whole visit took about 35 minutes and came in at a fraction of what the first guy charged him for a half-working key.
