I got a call from a guy parked near Sandyland Cove. He had a 2001 Honda S2000, one key, and a story that started with "some locksmith already tried."

The previous guy had cut him a key that looked right and fit the cylinder fine. Car turned over, no problem. But it would crank and immediately die. Every time. He figured it was a fuel issue, had a shop look at it, and they told him the immobilizer was rejecting the key. The transponder chip in the replacement was either wrong or had never been properly enrolled. He'd already paid for a key that didn't work and a diagnosis he didn't need.

He found me and wanted to know upfront whether I actually knew this car. Fair. I told him the S2000 from that year uses a specific transponder setup and that the key has to be both cut correctly and programmed to the immobilizer, and that both steps matter equally. One without the other and you get exactly what he described: cranks and dies.

I cut a new blade to his ignition, enrolled the transponder using my programmer through the OBD-II port, and then handed it to him. He turned the key, the car started, and he let it idle for a solid thirty seconds before he said anything. He was waiting to see if it would die.

It didn't.
