Over in Carpinteria, near the Carpinteria Valley Museum, a woman flagged me down from the parking area. She'd already verified my BSIS license, LCO 6792, before she ever called. Her last locksmith had no license at all. She found that out a week later when his receipt had no company name, no license number, and no callback number that worked. She needed a spare transponder key for her 2000 Honda S2000 and she was not taking any more chances.
Her S2000 runs Honda's first-generation immobilizer. The PCM talks to the transponder through an antenna coil on the ignition cylinder, and the key carries a T5 glass chip inside the plastic head. No remote, no buttons, just the chip and the blade. Simple system, but the programming path matters.
I pulled factory security data through NASTF, which gives me the original immobilizer codes Honda assigned to her VIN. That is the authorized data path. Locksmiths working without NASTF access have to use workarounds that can leave fault codes in the PCM or just fail outright on these older Honda immobilizer setups. I programmed the T5 chip with my ACDP, cut the blade to her HO01 keyway on site, and test-started the car twice.
