Got a call from a guy near Carpinteria Creek Park who had a 2004 S2000 sitting at a self-storage lot. AP2 chassis, the later revision with the 2.2L F22C1. He'd found me on YouTube months before, watching one of my Honda transponder jobs, and saved my number.
The car had been in storage for a while. He put the key in, turned it, and the engine cranked strong but wouldn't catch. Green key light on the dash just sat there glowing. Classic immobilizer rejection.
I pulled his original key out and looked at it. The blade was worn thin on the edges and the plastic head had a hairline crack right near where the T5 glass transponder sits inside. Twenty years of pocket carry will do that. The chip was still reading, but intermittently.
I used my Lishi HU101 to decode the lock directly, cut a fresh blade on site, and cloned his T5 transponder data onto a new chip using my VVDI Key Tool. No need to touch the OBD port for a clone, which is nice on these older Hondas where the immobilizer module lives in the gauge cluster and can be finicky to talk to.
Tested ignition three times. Turned over and fired every time. He just stood there holding the old key and the new one side by side, comparing the blade cuts like he was inspecting a forgery.
No dealer trip. No tow. Done right there at the storage lot.
