Out in Port Hueneme, near Naval Base Ventura County, a guy flagged me down on a Saturday. He had a 2009 Honda S2000, the last year they made them, and a story I hear too often. Another locksmith had cut a key and tried to program it. The car would crank, fire for about two seconds, then the immobilizer killed fuel injection. Classic incomplete IMMO learn. The other tech told him it was probably an ECU issue and left.
It was not an ECU issue.
Honda's immobilizer on these AP2 S2000s requires a full security registration sequence with a timed countdown through the OBD port. If you rush it or skip even one step, the ECU accepts the key data temporarily but never writes it to permanent memory. The green IMMO light on the dash keeps blinking instead of going solid, and the car shuts down every time.
I used my HON66 Lishi to check the mechanical cut first. It was actually decent. Then I connected my IM608 through OBD, cleared the failed key data from the botched attempt, and ran a clean IMMO learn with the full security timer. Watched the green key light go solid on the dash. Clean start, no two-second cutoff.
He had already paid the first locksmith, and I could not fix that part. But at least the car actually ran when I left.
