Mechanical Key Only
Your 1998 or 1999 Intrigue uses a straightforward mechanical key with no transponder chip and no immobilizer system. That means no programming is needed at all. We cut a new key to your locks and you are driving. It is the simplest and cheapest key job we do.
Passlock II Security Added
Your 2000, 2001, or 2002 Intrigue runs GM's Passlock II system, which uses a sensor in the ignition cylinder to verify the key. This is not a traditional transponder chip in the key head; it is a resistance-based system built into the lock. We handle the Passlock relearn on-site using our scan tools, so you never need a tow to the dealer.
Which Key Does Your Intrigue Use?
A plain metal key that starts your car and unlocks the doors. No electronics in the key itself. If you have a separate keyless entry remote, that uses a CR2032 battery.
Looks identical to the earlier key, but your car's ignition has a Passlock II sensor that reads the key. After cutting, we perform a security relearn so the car accepts the new key. Your separate remote fob, if you have one, is programmed separately.

Ignition Switch Wear and Sticking
First check on any Intrigue no-start is the ignition switch. NHTSA recall 00V227000 covers switches that wear and stick, letting the car start in accessory or not. If yours has never been replaced, that is likely the culprit. We diagnose on-site in Oxnard or Simi Valley.
Intermittent No-Start from Passlock Sensor Failure
On 2000-2002 Intrigues that crank but will not fire, the real problem is the Passlock II sensor in the ignition cylinder giving a bad reading. The security light is the giveaway. We bypass or reprogram the sensor on-site, no tow needed.
Key Turns But Engine Will Not Start
On high-mileage Intrigues, the Passlock sensor wears and stops communicating with the BCM. You will see the theft/security light flashing. We carry the tools to relearn or bypass right in your Thousand Oaks driveway or anywhere in Ventura County.
W-Body Platform Key Confusion
The Intrigue shares GM's W-Body platform with the Pontiac Grand Prix and Buick Regal, so people assume keys interchange. They do not always. Passlock calibration and resistance values differ between models. We verify by VIN before cutting, so you never end up with a key that fits but will not start.
Can You Program an Intrigue Key Yourself?
You can program your keyless entry remote yourself using GM's door cylinder switch method. It involves cycling the ignition and pressing the unlock switch in a specific sequence until you hear three beeps. This only works for the remote fob, not the key itself. For the key, especially on 2000 to 2002 models with Passlock II, you need a professional relearn with a scan tool.
