Out in East Area 2 in Santa Paula, I got a call from a guy standing next to his 2000 Intrigue in a parking lot. Fob had quit on him. Not the ignition, just the remote. He could still drive it fine, but he'd been manually locking and unlocking for two weeks and was done with that.
He'd already bought a replacement fob online using the dealer part number. Smart move, except it was sitting in his glove box unprogrammed.
I pulled up, he handed me the new fob still in the packaging. I verified it matched the factory FCC ID on the fob he already had, which matched what that car takes. Good. Then I opened his original fob to check the battery situation on that one. The CR2032 was reading low, and one of the contact clips had a slight bend from what looked like someone prying it open with a key instead of a proper tool.
I tested the new fob after programming it, walked the car, ran all four buttons, confirmed lock and unlock worked from across the lot. Then I handed him the original back too, battery swapped and contacts straightened, as a backup.
He asked what the dealer would have charged to do the same thing. I told him to call and ask sometime just for fun. He laughed and said he already had a number and it was way more than he expected.
