2000 Oldsmobile Intrigue
Key Replacement - Save vs Dealer in Ventura County

Q: Can you wipe out a lost or stolen fob so it stops working?

Yes. When we do a remote reset on a 2000 Intrigue, the process clears out the previously paired fobs and registers only the ones you want active. Any fob you lost or that got stolen will no longer operate the locks. It's a normal part of the job, not an add-on.

Q: My 2000 Intrigue fob has four buttons. What are they all for?

Lock, unlock, and the other two buttons handle additional functions. If you are not sure what each one does on your specific fob, the owner's manual covers it. What I can tell you is that if any button feels mushy, stops responding, or requires multiple presses to get a reaction, the rubber contact pad under that button is usually worn. That is a fob hardware issue, not a programming issue. A replacement fob programmed to your car fixes it cleanly.

Q: My new fob I bought online won't work on my Intrigue. Did I get a bad one?

Not necessarily. On these older GM remotes, the fob itself does nothing until it's programmed to the car. Buying the hardware is step one. Step two is the programming procedure, which registers that fob to your specific vehicle. Verify the factory FCC ID on the new fob matches what your Intrigue takes, then get it programmed.

Q: How long does a CR2032 actually last in a 2000 Intrigue fob?

Roughly one to three years depending on how often you use it. Short range and slow button response are the first signs it's going. A dead battery won't hurt the programming, so you can swap the CR2032 without losing the pairing. Just don't let the contacts sit corroded for months or you'll have a bigger problem than a weak battery.

2000 Oldsmobile Intrigue Remote Replacement - Fast, Affordable & Professional

Out in East Area 2 in Santa Paula, I got a call from a guy standing next to his 2000 Intrigue in a parking lot. Fob had quit on him. Not the ignition, just the remote. He could still drive it fine, but he'd been manually locking and unlocking for two weeks and was done with that.

He'd already bought a replacement fob online using the dealer part number. Smart move, except it was sitting in his glove box unprogrammed.

I pulled up, he handed me the new fob still in the packaging. I verified it matched the factory FCC ID on the fob he already had, which matched what that car takes. Good. Then I opened his original fob to check the battery situation on that one. The CR2032 was reading low, and one of the contact clips had a slight bend from what looked like someone prying it open with a key instead of a proper tool.

I tested the new fob after programming it, walked the car, ran all four buttons, confirmed lock and unlock worked from across the lot. Then I handed him the original back too, battery swapped and contacts straightened, as a backup.

He asked what the dealer would have charged to do the same thing. I told him to call and ask sometime just for fun. He laughed and said he already had a number and it was way more than he expected.

Oldsmobile Intrigue Mobile Service FAQ

Real costs, no dealer surprises

What is the cheapest way to handle all-keys-lost on my 2000 Intrigue?▼

Call a mobile locksmith before calling the dealer. On a 2000 Intrigue, all-keys-lost means the remotes need to be reprogrammed and you need a working ignition key cut to the vehicle. Dealers typically add a towing charge on top of the labor and parts. We come to your location, bring the equipment to handle it on-site, quote the price before we start, and that quoted price is what you pay. No tow, no sitting in a waiting room.
