Got a call from a guy over in the Santa Paula Creek area of Santa Paula. His 2000 Intrigue was sitting in the driveway, doors locked, and his only remote had quit responding. He had already bought a CR2032 from the grocery store and swapped it in the parking lot. Nothing changed.
When I got there, I popped the fob open on his hood. The battery contacts inside the ABO0204T housing had a layer of green corrosion, the kind you get when a dead battery sits in there leaking for a few months before you notice. New battery was making contact on one side and not the other.
Cleaned the terminals, seated the fresh CR2032, and programmed it back to the car using the GM onboard procedure through the driver door lock cylinder. Lock, unlock, hold, wait for the chime. All four buttons came back: lock, unlock, trunk release, panic. Tested range from across the driveway both directions.
He told me he had already called the Oldsmobile, well, the GM dealer. They told him the Intrigue line was discontinued so long ago that they would need to order the part and he would have to bring the car in. He just wanted to lock his doors from the kitchen window. Took me about fifteen minutes on site.
That is the kind of job that does not sound like much until you are the one standing in a parking lot with a dead remote and a locked car.
