Got a call from Midtown neighborhood in Ventura. Guy said his 98 Intrigue wouldn't start. He'd already had it towed home because the dealer told him the ignition cylinder was bad and they'd need the car for two or three days to order parts and reprogram the system. He didn't love that answer.
I pulled up and he was sitting on the porch with two worn-down keys on a ring. One was so ground down the shoulder cuts were almost flat. He said he'd been jiggling it for months.
Checked the ignition. Sure enough, the wafers inside were hanging up because the key was so worn it wasn't lifting them to the right positions anymore. The cylinder itself was still fine. The Passlock sensor was reading correctly. It just needed a key that actually matched the original cuts.
I decoded the lock with a Lishi GM39 pick and decoder, got the depths right off the wafers, and cut two fresh keys on the B102 blank. Slid the first one in and it turned like the car was new. Engine fired, SECURITY light cycled off normally, no relearn needed.
He kept looking at his old key and then the new one, comparing them side by side. The difference in the cuts was obvious once you saw them together.
Whole thing took maybe twenty minutes in his driveway. No tow back to the dealer, no three-day wait.
