1999 Oldsmobile Intrigue
Key Replacement - Save vs Dealer in Ventura County

Q: I don't know the FCC ID for my 1999 Oldsmobile Intrigue key. Do I need to find it before calling?

You don't need it, and honestly it doesn't apply here. The 1999 Intrigue uses a standard mechanical key with no remote transmitter, so there's no factory FCC ID in the picture. What we need is the vehicle itself. We decode the cut from your lock cylinder or ignition and make the key from there. Year, make, model, and the car in front of us is enough.

Q: I lost all my keys to my 1999 Oldsmobile Intrigue. Can you still make a new one?

Yes, and it's one of the more common calls we get on older vehicles like this. We don't need an existing key. We come to you in Downtown Ventura, decode the cut directly from the lock cylinder, and cut a new key on the spot. You can watch the whole thing happen. No tow, no dealer, no waiting around for a parts order. The new key works in the ignition and the door locks.

Q: My 1999 Intrigue key turns hard and feels like it's going to snap. Should I get a new key cut before it breaks?

Yes, do it now. A worn key that's getting stiff is usually worn on both ends of the equation: the key and the lock cylinder have been reading each other for 25 years. If the blade snaps inside the ignition, the job gets harder and more time-consuming because the broken piece has to come out first.

Q: Can I get a duplicate cut at a hardware store instead?

You can, but it depends on what you hand them. A hardware store copies what's in front of them, including any wear on your existing key. A copy of a worn key is a worn key. If the original is already rounding out on the cuts, the copy will be slightly off and can feel sloppy in the cylinder or just not turn cleanly.

1999 Oldsmobile Intrigue Metal Key Replacement - Fast, Affordable & Professional

Got a call from a guy parked near the Ventura Pier, right off the main drag in Downtown Ventura. He'd had the same key for years and the bow finally snapped clean off at the ignition. Blade stayed in his pocket, bow stayed in the cylinder. He was calm about it, which I appreciated.

He'd already called the dealer. They told him to tow it in, which didn't make a lot of sense for what was essentially a metal key job.

I pulled up, got the broken piece out of the ignition without drama, and decoded the cut. A few minutes at the key machine and he had a fresh key in hand. Tested it in the ignition, tested the door lock, done.

He said something like, "That's it?" Yeah, that's it. Sometimes the job is exactly as simple as it looks. The dealer route would have cost him a tow, a wait, and a lot more of his afternoon. He was back to his day before lunch.

Oldsmobile Intrigue Mobile Service FAQ

Real costs, no dealer surprises

Does the 1999 Oldsmobile Intrigue key fob use a CR2032 battery?▼

The 1999 Intrigue uses a mechanical key with no fob and no remote. There's no battery involved. You get a metal key cut to your vehicle and that's the whole job. If someone is quoting you a fob or a battery replacement for this car, they're thinking of a different vehicle.
