First Generation Launch
Launch-year 2007 Nitros ship the SKIM architecture with the Philips Crypto 2 (ID46) transponder. Standard double-sided blade, 3-button remote head, CR2032 cell, PIN-extracted OBD-II pairing. Marco runs these in under 30 minutes in any driveway.
First Generation Facelift
Mid-cycle 2008-2009 Nitros kept the same SKIM + ID46 envelope. Trim packages shifted, the key program stayed identical. Same tooling, same driveway service.
Final Production Year
Final-year 2010-2011 Nitros carried the same Philips Crypto 2 (ID46) architecture through the model wrap. Production ended after 2011 when Chrysler discontinued the line. Marco still stocks the right blanks.
Identify Your Nitro Key
Standard transponder blade with the Philips Crypto 2 (ID46) chip in the remote head. 3-button remote (lock, unlock, panic), CR2032 cell, double-sided blade.
Higher-trim 4-button remote head variant with the same ID46 chip. Adds trunk or hatch release to the remote functions.
Some packages shipped a smaller fob-style remote head with the same chip family. Same pairing path, same OBD-II session.

On a no-start Nitro, easy guess is the battery or starter; the SKIM quietly slips past. The SKIM verifies your Philips Crypto 2 (ID46) chip on every ignition event, and sync loss kills the run though the key works the doors. Marco re-pairs in San Diego.
Remote Head Buttons Wear Through
Nitro remote heads see daily presses for years and eventually the rubber dome collapses. Chip works, blade works, but the remote buttons stop registering. Marco swaps the shell and re-uses the original transponder chip on-site, no full reprogramming needed.
Door Lock Frozen by Coastal Salt
Nitros near Coronado, Oceanside, or Imperial Beach see salt-air corrosion in the door lock cylinders well before the rest of the truck shows wear. Marco re-pins or replaces door cylinders on-site and rekeys them to match the ignition.
Can You Program a Nitro Key at Home?
Two working keys in hand on a Nitro? Ignition cycling can add a third. First key ON for 3 seconds, OFF and pull. Within 15 seconds, second key ON, wait for the chime and the immobilizer light. Third key within 50 seconds. All-keys-lost wants Marco's van.
