Sentry Key Immobilizer System is the umbrella name for Dodge's transponder-based anti-theft architecture. It launched in 1998 on select models and was standard across the entire lineup by the early 2000s. If your Dodge is post-1998, you're almost certainly running a Sentry Key chip embedded in the key head that the SKIM module has to verify before the starter engages. For 2006 through 2023 Dodges, the all-keys-lost workflow runs at the car: Autel or Smart Pro programmer pulls the PIN from the SKIM or RF Hub module through the OBD port, generates new keys, writes the pairings. The one carve-out is 2015-and-newer Challengers and Chargers that received Dodge's Key Programming Lockdown firmware in 2021 or later. Those need an RF Hub module replacement on top of the new keys, and we verify lockdown status and price the full scope before any work starts.

Dodge pushed Key Programming Lockdown out in 2021 as a free voluntary security update for 2015-and-newer Challengers and Chargers. Once applied, the firmware blocks any key from being added to the car while it sits parked unattended, which slams the door on the main exploit thieves were using on these models. The trade-off: if you ever lose all keys after the update, the RF Hub module itself has to be replaced along with cutting and programming new keys. Not every eligible vehicle actually received the update, so we verify the module status when we arrive and walk through what's involved before anything moves.

A clean CR2032 swap should bring everything back online with no reprogramming. If it doesn't, the prime suspect is the small metal disc contacts inside the fob delaminating from the rubber button pad and losing connection to the circuit board. That's a documented issue on 2009 through 2015 Ram fobs and 2011 through 2014 Grand Caravan fobs specifically. The RF transmitter and chip usually survive fine. Moving the internals into a fresh shell with new disc contacts fixes the buttons without touching the programming. We diagnose this at the truck.

Step one is a fresh CR2032 in the fob. Step two is the under-hood fuse box on the driver's side, specifically positions 46, 51, and 52. Position 52 is the key one: it powers the RF Hub module mounted behind the rear seat. When that fuse blows, no fob will be detected at all, period. This single check trips up a huge percentage of 2013 through 2018 Ram diagnoses before anyone jumps to the conclusion that the module or the fobs themselves failed. Fuse check is part of our diagnostic workflow before any hardware swap gets quoted.

Usually yes for 2006 through 2020 Dodges, with one critical filter: the FCC ID stamped on the back of the fob has to match what your vehicle expects.
