Pre-SKIM Caravans use a straight mechanical double-sided blade. No transponder, no immobilizer, no programming. Cut the blank to the right code and the engine fires. Marco does these in the driveway in under 10 minutes start to finish.
SKIM Transponder Era
SKIM arrived for the 1998 model year with the Texas Crypto 4D (4D64) transponder. The blade still cuts the same way, but the chip inside the head now has to be paired to the SKIM through OBD-II with a PIN extraction. Marco runs both the cut and the pair from a single visit in any San Diego driveway.
Platform Transition
The fourth-generation Caravan kept the 4D64 transponder and the SKIM architecture all the way to the 2007 model wrap, ten model years on one chip family. Three-button remote head, CR2032 battery, OBD-II pairing path with PIN. Marco still stocks the right blanks for these.

EZ vs. the Dealer
Most San Diego Chrysler stores have aged out of supporting first-generation Caravan key cutting altogether. Marco still keeps the 4D64 blanks and the early mechanical cuts on the van, parked next to your Caravan, for about half what the diminishing dealer support quotes.

On a 1998-2007 Caravan that suddenly will not start, the easy blame is the battery and starter. The real culprit is the SKIM losing sync with the 4D64 transponder. Engine cranks, dash lights, immobilizer keeps fuel cut. Marco re-pairs on-site in San Diego.
Worn Cuts on the Original Blade
On a 1995-2007 Caravan with serious mileage, daily insertion grinds the bitting shallow and the ignition wafers stop reading the pattern. Wobbling key or van that cranks long without catching. A freshly cut blade off Marco's Condor solves it in San Diego.
Ignition Cylinder Worn Past Spec
Sometimes the key is fine and the cylinder is the problem. Years of insertion wear, plus San Diego summer heat cycling, leaves the cylinder unable to read even a fresh blade. Marco diagnoses on-site, re-keys to match your existing key, or swaps the cylinder.
Door Lock Cylinder Worn or Frozen
Caravan door cylinders see less use than the ignition but eventually wear, and salt air on Carlsbad and Coronado drives faster failure. Marco re-pins or replaces door cylinders on-site and rekeys to match the ignition so one blade still runs the whole van.
Can You Program a Caravan Key at Home?
Two working keys in hand on a 1998-2007 Caravan? Ignition cycling can add a third. First key, ON for 3 seconds, OFF. Within 15 seconds, second key, ON, wait for the chime. New key in within 50 seconds. Pre-1998 Caravans have no transponder, so no programming is needed at all.
Holding one working remote on a 1998-2007 Caravan? You can re-pair just the remote functions yourself using a LOCK / UNLOCK / PANIC sequence with the key in RUN. That covers lock, unlock, and panic only. The transponder side is not touched, so this is not a path to a new working key.
All-keys-lost on any 1998-2007 SKIM Caravan? No DIY path. The SKIM wants a PIN-extracted OBD-II session that wires the new chip in clean. (619) 876-1271 puts Marco at the van with the right tool.
