How Chrysler 300 Keys Changed Over the Years
Early LX Platform
On-board programming makes this one straightforward. Your 2005 to 2008 Chrysler 300 uses a flip key (or remote head on base models) with a Texas 4D transponder chip and the SKIM immobilizer. We pull the PIN, program the chip through the OBD port, and you are driving in about 20 minutes.
First Generation LX
The programming method here is still on-board, which keeps things simple and affordable. Your 300 runs a Texas 4D (ID46) chip verified by the Sentry Key Immobilizer Module. Three-button remote head key, standard blade, CR2032 battery. If you have two working keys, there is even a self-learn procedure built in.
Second Generation LD Platform
Chrysler moved to a smart proximity key with push-button start and an ID46 transponder chip. The Wireless Control Module replaced the old SKIM system, and programming now requires OBD-II access with a PIN from the server or a diagnostic tool. High-security blade means a specialized cutter, but we carry one on every call.
Late LD Refresh
This is where security got serious. The updated fob jumped to five buttons, a laser-cut emergency blade, and an ID47 chip running through the RF Hub immobilizer. Programming requires server authentication, which means specialized tools and Chrysler WiTech access. The dealer wants a fortune for this one, but we handle it on-site for significantly less.
Which Key Does Your Chrysler 300 Use?
A fold-out key with three remote buttons. You turn this one in the ignition the old-fashioned way. Common on C models and SRT8 trims from this era.
A chunky key with the remote built into the head. Same standard blade and three buttons. Base models typically came with this style instead of the flip.
Keep it in your pocket and push the button to start. The emergency blade is high-security cut, so you need a specialized machine to duplicate it.
The refreshed fob with five buttons and a laser-cut emergency blade. This is the one with server-based programming, which is why the dealer charges so much for it.
Pricing by Generation
Every price includes the key blank, cutting, programming, and testing; no hidden fees.

Common Chrysler 300 Key Problems
SKIM Module Failure
On no-start for a 2001-2007 Town & Country, first check is the Sentry Key (SKIM) module. Sits under the dash and reads your transponder every key turn. When it fails, the van will not start. We pull the PIN, replace, and reprogram in La Jolla.
WCM Water Damage
People think the ignition is bad when the real problem is the antenna ring around the cylinder. This coil reads your transponder; when it weakens, your 1998-2010 Town & Country acts like the key is missing. Sometimes a reprogram fixes it, sometimes the coil.
Transponder Sync Loss
Town & Country remote stops locking from across the lot, only works standing next to the van. Almost always a dying CR2032. Easy $5 fix; if it keeps happening, the circuit board may draw too much power. Common on 2008-2016 daily-use models.
Fob Battery Drain
On 2008-2016 models, BCM, SKREEM, and your fob all need to be in sync. Alignment failure (after battery disconnect or failed programming) sends the van into limp mode. Needs BCM reflash via OBD-II. We run proxy alignment, not Chula Vista dealership.
Can You Program a Chrysler 300 Key Yourself?
Yes, if you already have two working programmed keys, you can add a third yourself using Chrysler's built-in Customer Learn Mode. Insert the first key, turn to ON for 5 seconds, switch to the second key within 10 seconds, then insert the new key within 45 seconds. The security light will confirm. No tools needed, but the new key must already be cut to fit your ignition.
No self-programming option here. The WCM and SKREEM security on the second-gen 300 requires OBD-II access with a PIN code, which means a diagnostic tool and server access. This is a locksmith or dealer job, no way around it. Call us at (619) 876-1271 and we will handle it on-site.

Did You Know?
Back in 2005, Chrysler built the 300 on the same LX platform shared with the Dodge Charger and Dodge Magnum. All three cars rolled off the line in Brampton, Ontario, and their key systems were nearly identical. With the right programming, a Charger key blank could be cut and coded to start a 300, and vice versa.
