A family in Carmel Valley called me on a Tuesday morning. Their 2003 Caravan had been sitting in the driveway for two days. The key turned, the engine cranked, but it wouldn't fire and keep running. They'd already had a shop look at it, and the shop told them the fuel pump was probably on its way out. They were getting ready to authorize a pump replacement.

Whoever made it had cut the blade fine, but the transponder chip in the aftermarket key head wasn't reading reliably. Sometimes it would catch, usually it wouldn't.
I made a new key with a properly matched chip, enrolled it through the onboard procedure using the working factory key, and tested it back to back a half dozen times in the driveway. Solid every time.
They saved a good chunk compared to what that fuel pump job would have cost, and the van didn't need a single mechanical repair. The right key fix, done right, sometimes ends a diagnostic chase that was heading completely the wrong direction.
