Sentry Key Immobilizer System is Jeep's transponder anti-theft platform, introduced in 1998 across Grand Cherokee, Cherokee, and Wrangler TJ. The mechanism: an RF chip embedded in the key head exchanges authentication with the vehicle's computer at every ignition cycle. No recognized chip means no engine start, regardless of whether the blade is correctly cut for the cylinder. Most Jeeps built between 1998 and the early 2010s use Sentry Key with either an ID 46 or ID 47 chip. We program Sentry Key transponders at the curb using OBD tools.

Keyless Enter 'N Go is Jeep's brand name for the passive entry plus push-button start architecture. The fob signals the car continuously, so doors unlock as you approach and the engine fires once the brake is pressed and the button pushed. The system debuted on the 2005 Grand Cherokee WK and rolled out across Wrangler JK, Cherokee KL, Renegade, Compass, and Gladiator through the 2010s. Yes, this is regular work for us. Programming requires the vehicle PIN pulled from the RF Hub via OBD, which we retrieve at your car for most 2005 through 2021 models.

Depends entirely on which scenario you're in. Adding a spare key to a 2018 or newer JL with two working keys still in your hand: yes, fully mobile, standard add-key procedure. All-keys-lost on the same JL: not so fast. The 2018 model year security upgrade blocks the PIN retrieval method that works on every earlier Wrangler, so most JL all-keys-lost work requires dealer intervention. The phone call sorts your specific case before anyone schedules, so you know exactly what's involved and what it costs.

For most Jeeps through 2017, yes, mobile, no dealer needed. Wrangler JK through 2017, Grand Cherokee WK2 through 2018, Cherokee KL through 2018, Compass, and Renegade all run through the same workflow: pull the vehicle PIN from the RF Hub via OBD with JScan or Autel IM608, then program new keys at the car. The exceptions are the 2018-and-newer Wrangler JL and certain 2019-and-newer Grand Cherokee variants, where the security architecture changed enough that dealer tooling is often the right path. We sort which side of that line your vehicle falls on during the initial phone call.

A battery that lasts a month instead of years is almost never a fob fault or a vehicle fault, it's a battery selection problem. Duracell CR2032 cells with the bitter child-secure coating cause documented flaky and short-lived operation specifically in Jeep, Dodge, and Chrysler fobs because the coating interferes with the contact path. Switch to a fresh Panasonic CR2032 with a 3V-or-higher charge, the issue usually goes away. If a Panasonic also drains fast, the next suspect is a passive entry antenna fault keeping the fob constantly active, which we scan for at your car.

No, a battery swap never requires reprogramming on its own. The transponder chip retains its pairing to the vehicle independently of the battery power supply. If a fresh Panasonic CR2032 doesn't restore function, three suspects remain: a BCM receiver fault, identifiable through an OBD scan for error code U417; an RF Hub software issue that a Chrysler bulletin update may clear; or an internally failed fob. We diagnose all three at the curb before anyone recommends replacement hardware.

Two paths exist for the 2007-2017 Wrangler JK. Path one, mobile: we run a Simple Key programmer or our OBD tools at your car, skipping the full all-keys-lost PIN process because you've still got a working key. Path two, owner DIY: many JK models support self-programming add-key if you already have two existing programmed keys. The sequence is to insert each key in turn with 10-second ignition cycles, listening for the chime confirmation between each step. The self-program path only works with two existing keys, never for all-keys-lost, and never on the JL.
