Dodge Dart Keys Through the Years
Base Models, 3-Button Remote Head Key
Launch-year 2013 Darts ship the flip-key blade with the NXP Hitag AES (ID4A) chip inside, paired through the WIN module (not SKIM, the Dart is the odd one out in the Dodge lineup). 3-button remote head, CR2032 inside. OBD-II pairing through the WIN.
Keyless Enter-N-Go Smart Key
Mid-cycle Darts kept the same NXP Hitag AES (ID4A) transponder and WIN architecture, no real change in the key envelope from 2013 through 2016. Marco runs identical tooling across all four model years.
5-Button Fobik
Higher-trim Darts added push-button start with a proximity smart fob, still running the NXP Hitag AES (ID4A) chip through the WIN, plus Chrysler server authentication on the pairing side. Hidden laser-cut emergency blade inside the fob body.
Late Trim GT and Limited Smart Key
Final-year Darts (2016) carried the same WIN + NXP Hitag AES envelope through the model wrap. Production ended that year when Fiat Chrysler shuttered the line. Marco still stocks the right blanks for both the flip and the proximity variants.
Identify Your Dart Key
Flip-key style with a spring-loaded blade, 3-button remote head, NXP Hitag AES (ID4A) chip inside the head. Press the button on the side, the blade flips out, you insert and turn like a regular key.
Same NXP Hitag AES chip as the flip-key variant, just housed in a stationary remote head with a non-folding blade. Some lower trims shipped this instead of the flip.
Proximity smart fob with the laser-cut emergency blade hidden inside. Push-button start, capacitive door handles, NXP Hitag AES (ID4A) chip, Chrysler server authentication required for pairing.
Higher-trim variant of the proximity fob with extra buttons (remote start where equipped). Same chip, same WIN pairing path, same server authentication requirement.
What Your Dart Key Costs
Every price covers blank, cutting, programming, and testing; no hidden fees.
EZ vs. the Dealer
Local Chrysler stores still treat the Dart's WIN module as captive programming. Marco runs the same dealer-level tooling for NXP Hitag AES through the WIN, parked in your driveway, for around half.
Dodge Dart Problems We Fix Most
WIN Module Refuses the Fob
On a no-start Dart, the SKIM is not the story, the WIN module is. The WIN reads your NXP Hitag AES chip on every ignition event, and when it fails (water, corrosion, age) the car refuses to start. Marco diagnoses curbside, re-pairs the chip, or swaps the WIN.
Flip-Key Hinge Snaps in the Pocket
The Dart's flip-key hinge is a known weak point. The spring-loaded blade fatigues over a couple years of daily flips and snaps off. Transponder is fine, remote works, but the blade refuses to fold. Marco swaps the shell and reuses the original chip in San Diego.
Smart-Fob Battery Burns Through
Push-button Dart fobs run a CR2032 that drains faster than spec under San Diego heat. First sign is proximity unlock failing at the door handle, where you have to touch the button instead of the handle. Marco swaps the cell on-site in under a minute.
WIN Module Water Damage
The Wireless Ignition Node on the Dart sits where it takes incidental water from leaking windshield seals or A-pillar drains. Corrosion on the WIN connector causes intermittent no-starts that come and go with the weather. Marco diagnoses, cleans or swaps the WIN, and re-pairs the key.
Can You Program a Dodge Dart Key at Home?
Not really. Every Dart from 2013 through 2016 runs the WIN module with NXP Hitag AES, and the WIN does not accept the ignition-cycling add-a-key trick that older SKIM Chryslers allowed. Even with two working keys, the third needs OBD-II through the WIN. Marco's van carries the right tool.

Dart Trivia
The Dart is the one Dodge that does not use the SKIM architecture at all. Chrysler built it on the Alfa Romeo Giulietta platform after the Fiat takeover, and it rides a WIN (Wireless Ignition Node) module with the NXP Hitag AES (ID4A) transponder. That is why a Dart key pairs through a completely different OBD-II session than a Charger or a Challenger of the same year.
