2016 Dodge Dart
Key Replacement - Save vs Dealer in San Diego

Q: How long does the programming actually take once you're at my car?

For an add-a-key on a 2016 Dart where you have one working fob, the programming step itself moves fast once the tool is connected and the security PIN is pulled. All-keys-lost takes longer because there are additional steps to reset the system before new fobs can be enrolled. Either way, there's no waiting room, no repair order queue, no dispatcher between you and the person doing the work. I'm the one who shows up and does the job.

Q: Can you get the key made faster than the dealer?

The programming time at the car is similar no matter who's holding the tool. What we cut out is everything wrapped around that step at a dealership: scheduling delays, fob ordering lead times, waiting for a certified tech to be available, and the repair order process. We stock fobs for the Dart and carry the equipment to cut and program on site. You're not waiting on parts to arrive.

Q: I bought a replacement fob online. Can you just program it to my 2016 Dart?

It depends on what you bought. The Dart smart key system requires the replacement fob to match the correct configuration for your vehicle before it can be enrolled. If the fob you bought is compatible, yes, we can program it. If it's the wrong variant, it won't pair no matter what tool is used. Before you buy anything, check that the factory FCC ID on the fob matches the one currently used on your car.

Q: My Dart shows a key warning on the dash but the fob battery is new. What's going on?

A fresh battery doesn't always mean a fully functional fob. If the car is throwing a key-not-detected warning with a new CR2032 installed, a few things are worth checking before assuming the fob is dead. First, make sure the battery is seated flat and the contact clips are actually pressing against it. Second, try holding the fob closer to the start button when you get the warning.

2016 Dodge Dart Smart Key Replacement - Fast, Affordable & Professional

In Otay Mesa West, outside the karate studio on a Tuesday evening, I met a mom who had already done the math on her situation. Two boys in class, one car, a schedule with no slack in it. Her 2016 Dodge Dart fob shell was cracking along the seam and she knew it was only a matter of time before it gave out completely.

She had called the dealer. They told her to drop the car off for a few hours. She explained she had one vehicle and two kids. That conversation went nowhere.

She found me through a search, called, and we set a time that actually worked: 4:30pm, while the boys were inside.

I got there before class ended. The fob electronics were still intact, so I transferred them into a fresh shell first and tested every button. Lock, unlock, trunk, remote start button, panic. All clean. The programming through the OBD port was the quiet part of the job where I'm just watching the tool count through the sequence and confirm enrollment. Done before anyone came out in a gi.

She didn't lose a vehicle for a half-day. The boys climbed in and immediately asked about chicken nuggets. They had no idea anything happened in that parking lot.

Dodge Dart Mobile Service FAQ

Real costs, no dealer surprises

What if I need a Dodge Dart key replaced after hours or on the weekend?▼

Most dealer service departments close mid-to-late afternoon and run limited Saturday hours with no Sunday availability. If your key fails Friday evening, you could be waiting until Monday just to get into the queue, and Dart owners on forums describe dealers booking key appointments days out from that point. We work outside dealer hours, so a weekend key problem in Otay Mesa doesn't have to become a multi-day situation. You call, we come to wherever the car is.
