Durango Keys Across 25 Years
1st Generation (AN)
First-generation Durango (1998-2003) on the Dakota platform with the Philips Crypto 2 (ID46) transponder. Standard double-sided blade, 3-button remote head where equipped, CR2032 battery, PIN-extracted OBD-II pairing through SKIM. Marco runs these in under 30 minutes.
2nd Generation (HB)
Second-generation Durango (2004-2009) kept the Philips Crypto 2 (ID46) chip and the SKIM architecture, so the first-gen playbook still runs. Body grew, frame got revised, the key security envelope did not move much.
3rd Generation (WD)
WK2-platform Durango (2011-2022, sharing chassis with Jeep Grand Cherokee) introduced push-button start on higher trims with proximity smart fobs, plus the FCA-wide Chrysler server authentication on 2015+ cars. Marco carries the AutoProPad and FCA dealer-level gear for these.
Identify Your Durango Key
Standard transponder blade with Philips Crypto 2 (ID46) chip in the remote head. 3-button remote (lock, unlock, panic), CR2032 cell, double-sided blade.
WK2-era proximity smart fob with hidden laser-cut emergency blade inside the fob body. NXP-evolved chip family, capacitive door handles, push-button start.
Higher-trim WK2 fob with additional buttons (remote start where equipped). Same proximity entry, same hidden laser blade, same server-authenticated pairing.
Durango Key Replacement Pricing
Every price covers blank, cutting, programming, and testing; no hidden fees.
EZ vs. the Dealer
San Diego Chrysler-Dodge-Jeep dealers still treat Durango programming as captive work. Marco runs the same SKIM PIN tooling, the same Philips Crypto 2 capability, parked next to your truck, for around half.
Durango Problems We Fix Most
SKIM Drops the Philips Crypto 2 Handshake
On a Durango that cranks but will not catch, easy guess is the starter or fuel pump; the SKIM quietly sits in the background. The SKIM verifies Philips Crypto 2 (ID46) chip on on every event, and when it loses sync engine doesn't fire. Marco re-pairs in SD.
Worn Blade on First-Gen Trucks
First-generation Durangos with original keys hit a point where the blade is grinding past readable, even before SKIM issues. Years of ignition use plus San Diego dust and grit wear the bitting shallow. A fresh-cut blade off Marco's Condor solves it from any driveway.
Smart-Fob Battery Drains in Heat
WK2-era Durango smart fobs run a CR2032 that drains faster than spec under San Diego summer heat. First sign is proximity unlock failing at the door handle. Marco swaps the cell in under a minute on-site, parked next to the truck.
RF Hub Receiver Fails on Push-Button Trucks
Push-button start works for years on a WK2 Durango, then one morning the dash stays dark. The proximity receiver inside the RF Hub can quit without warning. Press the dead fob against the start button; passive RFID fires it. Marco reprograms or swaps the RF Hub in SD.
Can You Program a Durango Key at Home?
Two working keys in hand on a 1998-2010 Durango? Ignition cycling can add a third. First key ON for 3 seconds, OFF. Within 15 seconds, second key ON, wait for the chime. Third key within 50 seconds. WK2 Durangos (2011+) generally need full OBD-II through Marco's van.
Holding one working remote? Re-pair just the remote-side buttons via a LOCK / UNLOCK / PANIC sequence with the key in RUN. Covers lock, unlock, panic only. Transponder side untouched.
All-keys-lost on any SKIM Durango (1998 forward)? No DIY path. PIN-extracted OBD-II session required. (619) 876-1271.
WK2-era Durangos (2011+) with proximity fobs need Chrysler server authentication on top of the standard pairing. Even with all keys present, adding one means Marco's van. No driveway shortcut works.

Durango Trivia
Chrysler launched the Durango in 1998 with the Philips Crypto 2 (ID46) transponder already baked into the SKIM architecture, which makes the Durango one of the longest continuously-SKIM-keyed Dodge vehicles in production. That is why a 1999 SLT and a 2010 R/T share the same PIN-extraction playbook today, more than a decade apart.
