A military family in Mt. Helix was in the middle of a PCS move when their only key to a 2014 Dodge Durango went missing. Not lost at home, not left on a counter somewhere. It was in a U-Haul, buried somewhere inside a packed truck at a lot in La Mesa. The rental return was that afternoon. Base housing had a move-in window. Everything was timed.
They had two options: unload the entire truck in a parking lot in the summer heat, or call someone who could get them a working key on site.

The Durango uses a smart key fob with an integrated emergency blade. I decoded the door lock mechanically to establish the correct cut, then cut a fresh blade on my machine. From there I connected through the OBD port, ran the add-a-key procedure, and registered the new fob to the vehicle's immobilizer. Tested lock, unlock, and verified the push-button start was seeing the new fob cleanly.
One thing I told them before I left: the missing key, if it ever surfaces from a moving box six months from now, will still start the car. Add-a-key doesn't wipe existing fobs from the system. If they want that old key erased later, that's a separate all-keys-lost reset, and we can do it then.
They were back to loading within 45 minutes. The dealer would have meant a flatbed, a wait for availability, and a moving day that didn't survive contact with a service department schedule. Sometimes the whole point is just not losing the day.
