About Cadillac Keys

Four key generations live under one Cadillac badge: the early 1990s blade, the ID46 transponder era, the mid-2000s remote head, and the proximity smart key that defines the current Escalade and XT lineup. The right diagnostic equipment matches each one. We bring all four toolsets on every call across the 619.

Four Cadillac Generations, One Mobile Visit

Cadillac

Most Cadillac calls split into one of four buckets, and the answer to which bucket starts with the model year. Each era needs its own programmer, its own blank, and its own immobilizer dance. The single most common mistake is showing up with the wrong tool for the wrong generation. Our van solves that with all four.

Cadillac A Timeline of Four Cadillac Key Systems

A Timeline of Four Cadillac Key Systems

Picture the timeline: before 1994, anything with the wreath badge took a plain cut blade off the machine. The 1994 DeVille and Seville flipped that overnight when GM rolled the Philips ID46 transponder chip in, locking the engine until a scanner paired it. Walk forward another decade and the remote head key wins out across the lineup. Then the 2007 Escalade kicks off the proximity era that owns the brand by 2010 and still rules the showroom today.

Cadillac One Mobile Visit, Whatever the Year

One Mobile Visit, Whatever the Year

The 2005 CTS in the Hillcrest condo garage and the 2023 XT5 sitting at the Del Mar valet get the same single-visit treatment. Cut the blade, pair the chip or fob, hand it back, done. No tow truck, no service-desk write-up, no waiting for the parts department to track down a blank.

What the Cadillac Dealer Experience Is Really Like

Cadillac dealer experience

Step one at any Cadillac dealer is calling the service department, which means hold music, then a transfer, then a scheduled appointment usually slotted two to three business days out for non-emergency key work. None of that is a quick errand.

Cadillac The Day-Of Process

The Day-Of Process

Step two is the appointment day itself. Service-desk write-up, then waiting for parts to come off the rack, then waiting for a tech to clear a bay. Newer Cadillacs that require GM Techline SPS online authentication tie that bay up even longer for the programming session itself. Tally the wall-clock total from the first phone call to a working key in your hand and three to five days is normal.

Cadillac What You Pay at the Dealer

What You Pay at the Dealer

Step three is the invoice. The overhead all gets passed through: $330 to $550 for a working-key smart fob replacement, $500 to $1,000-plus for all-keys-lost, and that AKL number assumes you've also paid a tow truck to get the dead car into the service bay in the first place.

Cadillac How We Cut the Wait

How We Cut the Wait

Our version compresses all three steps into one mobile visit. Same OEM-spec programming, same blade cut, usually under an hour from arrival to you driving away. No appointment to book, no tow truck to call.

Cadillac Dealer vs. EZ Car Keyz

Run the numbers on a dealer quote and you'll see $330 to $550 for a working-key smart fob replacement, then it jumps past $1,000 once the situation turns into all-keys-lost. Same OEM-spec blank, same programming output, far less money when we drive it out to your car instead of you driving the car to them.

Cadillac Key Problems We Fix

Sound familiar? We handle all of these -on site, same day.

Cadillac Fob Battery That Quit
Fob Battery That Quit
Roughly half of every Cadillac call we run traces back to this. The dash throws 'no key detected,' the push-button start ignores you, and the obvious fix is a fresh CR2032 in the fob. Door-locked-with-the-fob-on-the-counter scenario? Slide the hidden mechanical blade out of the fob body and use it on the driver's door slot to get inside while you handle the battery.
Cadillac Cadillac Sees the Fob but Won't Start
Cadillac Sees the Fob but Won't Start
Three usual suspects here: nearby RF interference, a cracked circuit board from a drop, or a fob battery hovering at the bottom of its useful range. A workaround that works on almost every push-start Cadillac: touch the fob body directly to the Start button while you press the brake. That bridges the weak signal long enough to fire the engine and get you to a proper fix.
Cadillac Blade Wear Scoring the Ignition
Blade Wear Scoring the Ignition
Daily use eats into Cadillac key blades, and the 2000s remote head keys are the worst offenders. The early warning is a rough turn in the ignition, the next stage is metal flakes inside the cylinder, and the worst-case scenario is a snapped blade wedged in there. Cutting a fresh blade before any of that happens is always the cheaper move.
Cadillac Online Fob That Won't Pair
Online Fob That Won't Pair
The eBay or Amazon Cadillac fob arrives, the owner pops in a CR2032, presses Lock, and nothing happens. The hardware works. The BCM pairing doesn't. Without that pairing step on the OBD port, the fob is a paperweight. Bring us the unpaired fob and the car, and we cut the blade and write the pairing in one mobile visit.

Pro Tip

Cadillac pro tip

Worth knowing before you actually need it: every push-to-start Cadillac built since 2007 hides a mechanical emergency blade inside the fob body. The release is a small tab on the back. Press it, slide the blade out, and walk to the driver's door. The door slot isn't where you'd expect, though, because Cadillac tucks it behind a small removable cover panel on the door handle. Pry that cover off with the blade tip, insert, turn, you're in.

Cadillac Finding the Backup Fob Spot

Finding the Backup Fob Spot

From the driver's seat with a dead fob in hand, the next move depends on which Cadillac you're sitting in. Each model designates a specific spot, usually a shaped depression molded into the center console, where the passive transponder can still talk to the proximity antenna. XT and CT models almost always use the center console pocket. Look it up in the owner's manual once on a quiet afternoon so you're not skimming the index at midnight.

Cadillac Key Fob Battery Guide

Cadillac How to Open

How to Open

First step is the mechanical-blade release on the back of the fob. Push it and slide the emergency blade out of the body. With the blade clear, find the seam line running near where the blade used to sit. A coin or a cloth-wrapped flathead seated in that seam splits the two halves of the fob housing apart without scratching the finish.
CR2032
Cadillac Battery Type

Battery Type

Almost any Cadillac fob from 2010 onward, proximity or remote head, takes a CR2032. The 2005 through 2009 remote heads run a CR2025 instead, which is the same diameter but a bit thinner, so a CR2032 won't seat. The cell type is stamped on the old battery's face if you're squinting at it under the dome light. Good news on the back end: the pairing code lives in fob memory through any normal battery swap, so no scan tool is needed afterward.

Cadillac Owners on Our Service

⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐

"Called on New Year's Day at 5 PM. Key worked on ignition and passenger door but not the driver door. He looked at the key more closely and said it could be a worn out key versus a door cylinder. Got the spare key and it worked. Saved me more than $100 compared to changing the door cylinder. Prompt, professional and fair pricing."

Gordon Harada
⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐

"EZ Car Keys is by far the best locksmith I've ever used. Marco is prompt, prices are reasonable, and he has the experience that leaves you comfortable. We've used him twice and will never use anyone else!"

Traci Thomas
⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐

"Simply amazing. They honored their phone quote even though the job took much longer due to problems with my ignition cylinder. They disassembled, repaired, made two new keys and programmed key fobs - all for the original quote."
