How the CT4 Key System Has Evolved
1st Generation (Pre-Facelift)
Your 2020 or 2021 CT4 uses a smart proximity key with a high security emergency blade and push button start. The GM immobilizer requires server authentication for programming, which means we connect through OBD-II and communicate with GM's servers in real time. No shortcuts, no workarounds, but we carry the tools and subscriptions to handle it at your curb.
1st Generation (Mid-Cycle Refresh)
The 2022 and 2023 facelift CT4 keeps the YG0G20TB1 5-button fob and the Hitag-Pro NXP ID49 immobilizer untouched, just inside a refreshed dash and a tweaked grille. Same CR2450, same server authentication, same Marco-on-the-spot programming whether the car is parked in Rancho Bernardo or pulled off I-15 with a dead fob.
1st Generation (Late)
Your 2024 CT4 runs the same advanced GM immobilizer with server authentication. Keyless ignition is standard across every trim. We retrieve your security PIN through GM Techline Connect and program the key curbside, same visit, same driveway.
Which Key Does Your CT4 Use?
Five-button proximity fob (FCC YG0G20TB1) with the laser-cut emergency blade tucked in the housing. You never insert it. Push-button start, passive entry, all 4 doors plus trunk and remote start. Programming on this one means GM Techline server authentication, which is the part nobody at the dealership in Mission Valley will explain to you.
Same YG0G20TB1 fob carries through the 2022-2023 facelift with no electronic changes. If the prior owner only handed over one when you bought the CT4 used in Carmel Valley, this is the platform we cut and pair curbside. CR2450 inside (not rechargeable, despite what Reddit threads claim).
Across every 2024 trim including the V-Series Blackwing, the fob is still the YG0G20TB1 5-button with passive entry and push-button start. GM did not bifurcate fobs by trim on this generation, which means we carry the same blank for a Luxury, a Premium, and a Blackwing rolling through Mira Mesa.

Common CT4 Key Problems
Prox Fob Battery Drain
First diagnostic move is how long the fob holds a charge. Your CT4 smart key has a rechargeable battery meant to top off while driving, but constant module talk drains it faster than expected. Charging coil or fob may need replacement. We test curbside.
Immobilizer Sync Loss
A lot of CT4 owners in Escondido and Del Mar think the key is broken when it is a sync issue. After a dead battery or low voltage event, ECM and BCM lose communication with programmed keys. Needs full reprogramming with GM server access, not a battery.
Fob Blade Wear
CT4's emergency blade is high security: tight tolerances, precise cuts. On daily drivers it wears faster than expected and will not turn the cylinder when you need it. We cut fresh high-security blades on a Silca Futura curbside in UTC, Chula Vista, wherever.
Can You Program a CT4 Key Yourself?
If two working YG0G20TB1 fobs are still in hand, the door-cylinder add method gets you remote functions on a third fob: insert the emergency blade in the driver door, lock-unlock-lock five times inside thirty seconds, and the BCM accepts the new remote. The passive entry and push-button start side still demands server authentication and a Tech2Win-class scanner. That part stays with us.
Same door-cylinder shortcut as the earlier years. Two working fobs let you add the remote-only side of a third. The Hitag-Pro NXP ID49 chip that actually starts the CT4 needs the GM SPS subscription and a live VIN handshake, which Marco's van rolls to your San Diego curb already loaded.
Remote pairing is possible with two existing keys using the center console key cylinder procedure. Full transponder and immobilizer programming requires professional equipment and GM Techline Connect access. Dial us at (619) 876-1271 if you are not sure what you need.

San Diego Trivia
Worth knowing: the Cadillac CT4 shares its Alpha rear-wheel-drive platform with the Chevrolet Camaro. GM stretched a sports car chassis, softened the ride, and dropped a luxury sedan body on top. It is one of the rare instances where a muscle-car platform ended up underpinning a Cadillac, which is why CT4 key work looks an awful lot like Camaro key work under the hood.
