First Generation Facelift (JC)
Mid-cycle 2011-2013 Journeys kept the same SKIM architecture and transponder envelope as the launch years. No real change in the key program.
First Generation Facelift 2 (JC)
Refresh-era 2014-2018 Journeys moved to the WIN module with the NXP Hitag AES (ID4A) transponder, plus Chrysler server authentication on the pairing. Proximity smart fob with hidden laser-cut emergency blade became standard on most trims.
First Generation Final (JC)
Final-years 2019-2020 Journeys carried the same WIN + NXP Hitag AES envelope through the model wrap. Marco runs the AutoProPad on these for the server side.

Ignition Cylinder Slips Past Run
On Journeys in the 2010 recall envelope, the cylinder lets the key rotate back past ON with the key partly inserted, shutting the engine off mid-drive on the I-5 or the 805. Marco diagnoses on-site, cuts a tighter blade, or replaces the cylinder when wear is past fixable.
WIN Module Fails on Later Journeys
On a 2014-2020 Journey, the Wireless Ignition Node reading the NXP Hitag AES chip is the more common failure point than the SKIM. Water, vibration, or age kills the WIN. Car cranks, dash lights, engine never fires. Marco diagnoses the WIN curbside and re-pairs or swaps.
Smart-Fob CR2032 Burns Through
Journey smart fobs run a CR2032 that drains faster than spec under San Diego summer heat. First sign is proximity unlock failing at the door handle. Marco swaps the cell in under a minute on-site. Keep a spare in the glovebox.
Push-Button Receiver Module Fails
Push-button start works for years on a 2014+ Journey, then one morning the dash stays dark. The proximity receiver inside the WIN can quit cold. Press the dead fob against the start button; passive RFID fires the engine. Marco programs or swaps the WIN in SD.
Can You Program a Journey Key at Home?
Two working keys in hand on a 2009-2013 Journey? Ignition cycling can add a third. First key ON for 3 seconds, OFF. Within 15 seconds, second key ON, wait for the chime. Third key within 50 seconds. 2014+ Journeys with the WIN module want full OBD-II through Marco's van, no DIY path.

We cut your new key to the correct blade profile (standard H72 for 2009-2013, high-security Y160 for 2014-2020) and program the transponder chip through the OBD-II port using Autel IM608 or VVDI Key Tool Plus.

The 2010 ignition-slip recall caught roughly 248,000 Dodge Journey, Dodge Grand Caravan, and Chrysler Town and Country vehicles when the cylinder allowed rotation back past the ON position with the key still inserted.
