He called at 9:15pm from the 24-hour laundromat lot in National City. His 2016 Dodge Journey wouldn't start after his overnight janitorial shift ended. Push-to-start did nothing. I charged the battery enough to stabilize the electrical system, then reprogrammed his fob through OBD using the restored module data. His Smart Key, FCC ID M3N-40821302, was a 4-button smart key. The truck started immediately once the WIN module relearned the fob.
He made it to his next building on time. Total was $277. The dealer would have been $471 the next day plus a tow. The problem wasn't the fob at all. It was a dying battery that caused the WIN module to lose its key registration. That kind of diagnosis is exactly why I carry multiple tools. The first assumption isn't always the right one.
