2009 Dodge Journey
Key Replacement - Save vs Dealer in San Diego

2009 Dodge Journey Remote Head Key Replacement - Fast, Affordable & Professional

Out near the Mission San Luis Rey Area, a woman who taught kindergarten was in the parking lot of a grocery store when she realized her one and only key for her 2009 Dodge Journey was barely functioning. The remote buttons had gone spotty, and she was worried about the key itself failing completely and leaving her stranded somewhere with her students' craft supplies in the back seat.

She had already called the dealer. The quote she got back was enough to make her pause for a few days, and then she asked around. A neighbor who had used me on a Chrysler told her I carry the same programming equipment and cover the same vehicles.

I met her at the parking lot that evening. The Journey's key system on this generation requires going through the OBD port to communicate with the immobilizer, read the security PIN, and register a new key into the vehicle's memory. That part is not optional and it is not something a hardware store can do. My programming equipment handled the PIN extraction and the key learn in a single workflow, the way it is supposed to go.

I cut the replacement blade to her vehicle, programmed the transponder so the immobilizer would accept it, and verified the remote functions all worked before I handed it over. The whole thing ran about 30 minutes in a parking lot, no tow truck, no waiting in a service queue, no leaving the car somewhere for a week.

She saved a good chunk compared to the dealer quote. That part came up almost as an afterthought because by then she already had a working key in her hand.
