2019 Dodge Journey
Key Replacement - Save vs Dealer in San Diego

Q: How do I know you are not a scam locksmith?

Scam locksmiths follow a pattern. A low number gets quoted over the phone, then the bill doubles or triples on site. The extra charges usually come labeled as "programming fees," "security access fees," or something vague about the specific vehicle being "more complicated. Dodge owners get hit with this regularly because smart key work does cost more than a basic lockout, and scammers exploit that gap.

Q: Will the replacement key work exactly like the original?

Yes. A properly programmed replacement fob for the 2019 Journey gets enrolled directly into the vehicle security system through the OBD port. Once it is registered, the car recognizes it the same way it recognized the factory fob. Engine starts, doors lock and unlock, the insert key operates the door cylinder. I test every function on site before I leave. If anything is off, I find it while I am still there, not after I have driven away.

Q: I found a replacement fob online for cheap. Can I just bring that to you to program?

Sometimes, but it depends on what you bought. Aftermarket fobs for the 2019 Journey vary in quality. Some program without issue. Others have communication problems that make enrollment fail or cause intermittent behavior after the fact, things like the vehicle not detecting the fob reliably or buttons that work one day and not the next. The factory fob is what I can guarantee works.

Q: My 2019 Journey fob stopped working but a new battery did not fix it. What else could it be?

A few things. First, check that the CR2032 is seated correctly and the contacts are clean. A slightly bent contact can make a fresh battery act dead. If the battery is solid and the fob still gets no response, the fob itself may need to be re-paired. This happens sometimes after a battery is pulled and reseated, or if the fob gets out of sync with the vehicle. Re-syncing requires diagnostic equipment, not a button sequence.

2019 Dodge Journey Smart Key Replacement - Fast, Affordable & Professional

A family in Mt. Helix called me on a weekday morning. They had a moving truck staged in the driveway and a hard out time. Somewhere during the chaos of packing, the only fob for their 2019 Dodge Journey had gone missing, probably buried in a box on the truck. They had a new place to get to and no time to unload everything looking for it.

They needed a working key before the truck left.

I was at their place in La Mesa within the hour. The Journey was sitting in the driveway, locked, load already on the truck. I decoded the door lock to cut a replacement key blade and matched it to the vehicle. Then I connected through the OBD port and ran the add-a-key sequence to register the new 4-button fob into the vehicle security system. The car saw the new fob, the immobilizer released, engine started on the first try.

I walked every button before I packed up. Lock, unlock, panic, and then the insert key to confirm it physically opened the door. Everything checked.

The whole thing took under an hour. They were back to coordinating the move before the truck needed to pull out. The dealer had already told them a same-day appointment was not available.

That is the part people remember. Not the tool, not the procedure. Just that it got done and the day kept moving.

Dodge Journey Mobile Service FAQ

Real costs, no dealer surprises

Are you licensed and insured to work on Dodge vehicles?▼

Yes. EZ Car Keyz holds a California Bureau of Security and Investigative Services license (LCO#6792) and carries full insurance. For the 2019 Dodge Journey specifically, smart key programming goes through the OBD port and requires professional diagnostic equipment to register a new fob with the vehicle security system. Having the right credentials matters because the vehicle will only accept a properly enrolled key.
