He called at 9:15 at night from the parking lot of a 24-hour laundromat right on the Spring Valley border in Lemon Grove. His 2017 Dodge Journey would not start after his overnight janitorial shift wrapped up. Push-button start did nothing. He made it to his next building with time to spare. The dealer would have been a tow that night plus a morning appointment. He got neither. What he got instead was a diagnosis that actually matched the problem, done on site, for a fraction of what that whole ordeal would have cost.

The fob was never the issue. A dying battery caused the module to lose its pairing. That's the kind of thing you only catch if you slow down and look at the whole system before you start throwing parts at it.
