About Ram Keys

Every Ram truck since 1998 runs Sentry Key for the immobilizer, and every Enter-N-Go truck since 2013 stacks proximity entry on top of it. That covers fourth-gen Laramies with the Fobik, fifth-gen Limiteds with push-button start, and the entire 1500, 2500, 3500 range in between. We program at the truck wherever you parked it - Fallbrook work yard, Carmel Valley driveway, San Marcos office lot. No tow, no shop visit.
Sentry Key and Proximity Fob Work, Done at Your Truck

Sentry Key has been the immobilizer foundation on every Ram since 1998, so even a basic third-gen 1500 from 2002 needs a programmed transponder before the engine will run. Those third-gen 1500s and HDs from 2002 to 2008 run TI 46 and ID47 chips in remote-head fobs that cut and program through the OBD port without drama. The fourth gen from 2009 to 2018 made things more interesting: the 1500 picked up the Fobik integrated smart key, and 2013 brought Enter-N-Go proximity entry to the higher trims. Every step of that progression is something we cover at the truck.

How the Programming Actually Runs at Your Truck
The fifth-gen jump in 2019 raised the bar. Those trucks use encrypted proximity smart keys that require a PIN read from the BCM before the immobilizer will accept anything new. Autel IM608 plus FCA-compatible programming in the van pulls that PIN at the truck, no dealer trip and no dealer authentication required. For all-keys-lost across the 2009 to 2024 Ram range - 1500, 2500, 3500 alike - we close out the job at your location anywhere across San Diego County without ever putting the truck on a flatbed.
Ram Dealer vs. EZ Car Keyz

The dealer ticket on a Ram key job typically runs 50 to 80 percent higher than what a properly equipped mobile locksmith charges. We pull up to your truck with the correct blank already in hand, cut on site, program through OBD, and quote a single flat number. No tow, no per-hour shop labor, no surprise line items at the end.

What to Do When Your Ram Fob Dies

Every Ram proximity fob hides a mechanical blade inside the housing. Find the small release button on the side or corner, push it, and the blade slides out through a slot in the side of the body. Keep it ready in your hand. The next step needs it.

Driver door keyhole is usually right on the handle, sometimes hidden behind a small plastic cap that pops off with the blade tip. Slide the blade in, turn to unlock manually, climb in. Heads up: opening with the blade trips the alarm. That is normal and the alarm cuts out the moment the engine fires in the next step.

Climb in, foot firmly on the brake pedal, hold it there.

Press the dead fob flat against the push-button Start/Stop switch. The button itself has a coil antenna inside that can wake the passive transponder chip in the fob even with zero battery power. On 2013 to 2018 trucks, the button sits to the right of the steering column. On 2019+ trucks, it lives on the center dash. Hold the fob against the button and push the button at the same time. The engine should fire. If nothing happens on the first try, shift the fob a few millimeters and push again. The pickup zone is small, so position matters.
Pro Tip

Here is the thing nobody warns Ram owners about. The battery inside the fob changed sizes between generations. Fourth-gen 1500 and HD fobs from 2009 through roughly 2021 use a CR2032 coin cell - thin, common, sold at every gas station from Chula Vista to Oceanside. Fifth-gen fobs from around 2022 onward, covering the current 1500, 2500, and 3500, run a CR2450 instead. Same diameter as the 2032, but about twice as thick, with roughly double the capacity to match.

Wrong Battery, Wrong Fit
Drop a CR2032 into a slot built for a CR2450 and the cell sits loose in the holder, contacts intermittently, and produces fob failures that look identical to a busted receiver or a dead fob. Before paying for any diagnosis, confirm the battery you installed is the correct thickness. The FCC ID printed on the back of the fob will tell you which generation you have, and the correct cell spec follows from there.
Ram Owners on Our Service
"Called on New Year's Day at 5 PM. Key worked on ignition and passenger door but not the driver door. He looked at the key more closely and said it could be a worn out key versus a door cylinder. Got the spare key and it worked. Saved me more than $100 compared to changing the door cylinder. Prompt, professional and fair pricing."
Gordon Harada"EZ Car Keys is by far the best locksmith I've ever used. Marco is prompt, prices are reasonable, and he has the experience that leaves you comfortable. We've used him twice and will never use anyone else!"
Traci Thomas"Simply amazing. They honored their phone quote even though the job took much longer due to problems with my ignition cylinder. They disassembled, repaired, made two new keys and programmed key fobs - all for the original quote."
