ProMaster City Key System, Year by Year
First Years (2015-2016): Flip Key with ID46
3-button flip key with the Philips ID46 transponder chip inside. The chip handshakes with the SKIM (Sentry Key Immobilizer Module) on every ignition turn. No handshake, no start. Programming goes through the OBD-II port under the dash, and the transponder MUST be pre-coded with TM PRO before it will pair to the Marelli BCM on these early model years.
Same Flip Key, BCM Variant Split (2017-2018)
Visually identical flip key to the 2015-2016 generation, still running the Philips ID46 chip and SKIM immobilizer. The hidden change: Ram started building with EITHER a Marelli or Delphi BCM depending on the production batch. The wrong programming approach against the wrong BCM variant means the key will not work AT ALL. Marco verifies the BCM type by VIN against the FCA database BEFORE plugging into the OBD port.
Final Year (2019): Same Platform
3-button flip key with the same Philips ID46 chip and SKIM system as every ProMaster City before it. 2019 was the final model year and the OEM key part number (68334510AA) confirms the hardware stayed locked in. Same OBD-II programming flow, same TM PRO pre-coding requirement, same 30-45 minute result at your curb.
Identify the Flip Key on Your ProMaster City
Folding key with three buttons: lock, unlock, and a dedicated cargo-door button. The blade flips out when you press the release tab on the side. The Philips ID46 transponder chip is embedded inside the housing.
Visually the same flip-key design as the 2015-2016. Looks identical, operates identical, but the BCM behind it on the van may be a Delphi variant instead of Marelli. That is Marco's problem to sort out via VIN check, not yours.
The final model year kept the same 3-button flip key, OEM part 68334510AA. If you are replacing a worn-out original because the buttons stopped clicking or the chip went dead, this is the key Marco cuts and programs at your curb.

ProMaster City Key Problems Marco Sees Weekly in 619
Aftermarket Key Skipped TM PRO Pre-Coding
Classic ProMaster City failure Marco sees weekly from Otay Mesa fleets to Carlsbad: new aftermarket flip key 'programmed,' blade starts the van, BUT remote buttons do nothing. The Philips ID46 transponder MUST be pre-coded with a TM PRO before BCM pairing. Tango unreliable.
BCM Variant Mismatch Triggers Immobilizer Lockout
Your ProMaster City carries a Marelli or Delphi BCM (Ram split by build batch, no visual difference). Wrong approach against wrong BCM triggers full immobilizer lockout. Marco pulls your VIN against the FCA database first. Stuck in La Jolla? Call (619) 876-1271.
Cargo Door Button Membrane Failure
Before quoting a full fob, Marco checks whether failure is button or receiver. On 2016-2019 ProMaster City vans, the third button (cargo/sliding) fails earlier than lock/unlock delivery crews press it dozens of times daily. Sometimes the cargo-door actuator is the real fault. Tests both with IM608.
Can You Program a ProMaster City Key Yourself?
Zero DIY path. ProMaster City has no self-programming procedure for any model year 2015-2019. The Philips ID46 chip MUST be pre-coded with TM PRO equipment (not standard locksmith tools), AND the transponder must be learned through OBD-II using a PIN retrieved from the BCM. Professional-only job, no shortcut exists.
How It Works

Call or Text Us
Text or call (619) 876-1271. Marco asks for your exact model year and whether you have a working key or are fully locked out.

We Drive to You
Marco rolls the van wherever your ProMaster City is parked across San Diego County: a Chula Vista warehouse loading dock, an Encinitas catering company driveway, a Poway HVAC shop, a stalled van on I-15 in Mira Mesa.

Cut, Pre-Code, Program, Test
Marco verifies the BCM variant by VIN, pre-codes the ID46 chip on the bench with TM PRO, cuts the flip-key blade on the Xhorse Condor at the curb, and programs the transponder through OBD-II.

Did You Know in San Diego?
Surprise: your Ram ProMaster City is actually a re-skinned Fiat Doblo Italian commercial van underneath. Ram took the Doblo platform, re-tuned it for the US market, and inherited Fiat's flip-key system with the FCC RX2TRF198 transponder and the Marelli/Delphi BCM split. That European DNA is exactly why so many San Diego locksmiths bail on these vans: TM PRO pre-coding is mandatory, the BCM variant has to be verified by VIN first, and standard locksmith tools simply do not work reliably on the immobilizer. Marco runs the TM PRO and the full FCA toolset on the van.
