2015 Ram Promaster City
Key Replacement - Save vs Dealer in San Diego

Q: How do I know you are not a scam locksmith?

Scam locksmiths follow a pattern: low quote on the phone, then a surprise price jump once they're standing next to your van. They cite the key type, the security system, or some other reason they can't explain before the job. A real shop gives you an honest estimate over the phone for your specific vehicle, has a verifiable name, a real license number, and reviews you can read.

Q: Will the replacement emergency key work exactly like the original?

Yes. The replacement blade is cut to your specific van, so it operates the door lock cylinder and ignition the same way the factory key did. We test the key in the door and the ignition on-site before we leave. If there's any issue with the cut, we sort it right there. You're not handed a key and left hoping it works later.

Q: I only need the blade cut. Can I get just that without replacing the whole fob?

Depends on what you still have. The emergency blade on the Promaster City fob is a separate piece from the fob housing. If the housing is intact and you just snapped or lost the blade, yes, a replacement blade can be cut to the vehicle by decoding your lock cylinder or pulling the key code from vehicle records. You don't need a whole new fob unit for that.

Q: My key turns but the van won't start. Is the blade worn out or something else going on?

A worn blade can cause a no-start if it's slipping in the ignition cylinder and not fully rotating the switch. Try wiggling the steering column lock and make sure the column isn't binding. If the key turns cleanly and the column moves freely but the van still won't crank, the issue is likely elsewhere in the starting circuit, not the key itself.

2015 Ram Promaster City Emergency Key Replacement - Fast, Affordable & Professional

A mechanic over near Lomas Santa Fe called me on a Tuesday afternoon. He'd been pulling parts from a yard with his 2015 Ram Promaster City and somewhere between the rows, his only key disappeared. Checked his pockets three times, walked back through the lot. Nothing. The van was sitting in the middle of the yard, going nowhere.

The Promaster City uses an emergency key blade that tucks into the fob body. That whole unit was gone, which meant no blade, no remote, nothing. I decoded the lock on-site, sourced the correct blade profile for this van, and cut a replacement key to match. Got him back into the vehicle and running.

He was back to work within about 40 minutes of my arrival. His words were something like "I thought I was here all night." The dealer route would have meant towing the van, waiting for parts, and losing at least a day of work. He saved a good chunk and got it handled in the same afternoon, right there in the lot.
