2017 Ram Promaster City
Key Replacement - Save vs Dealer in San Diego

2017 Ram Promaster City Emergency Key Replacement - Fast, Affordable & Professional

It was early morning in the Border Area of San Ysidro, one of those days where the wait lines at the crossing were already stacking up and everyone on this side of the street was moving fast.

A guy called me about a Promaster City. He ran a small delivery operation and the emergency key blade had snapped. Not in the ignition, just at the pivot where it folds back into the fob body. The broken stub was rattling loose inside the casing. He had a spare fob but no cut blade to go with it, and he needed the van running before his first drop.

I was on site in about 20 minutes. The fob casing was cracked along the seam from what looked like a lot of years of being jammed into tight pockets with other keys. I decoded the existing door lock to get the correct cut, trimmed a new blade to match, and tested it through the door and ignition before touching anything else. Clean entry, smooth turn.

He looked at the new blade, looked at the old broken stub, and said something along the lines of "that's it?" That's it. The van was running, his route was intact, and he didn't have to explain to a dealer why he needed same-day service at 6am.

The dealer comparison didn't even come up. He just needed the job done, and it was done for a fraction of what a dealer trip would have cost him in time alone.
