This is where Infiniti's security got serious on the QX80 platform. Your key is a 3-button Intelligent Key fob running an NXP ID46 (Hitag 2) transponder chip on a 434 MHz frequency, paired with the NATS immobilizer system. It has a hidden laser-cut NSN14 emergency blade inside, and programming requires OBD-II access plus a dealer-level PIN code.
First Generation Facelift (Y62)
Infiniti refreshed the exterior and interior, but kept the same proven key system under the hood. You still have a 3-button smart key with the NXP ID46 chip, same FCC ID CWTWB1G744, same NATS immobilizer, same OBD-II programming method. If you are upgrading from a pre-facelift model, your key experience is identical.
What Key Does Your QX80 Actually Use?
A proximity smart key with push-button start. You keep it in your pocket and the car detects it automatically. There is a hidden emergency blade inside for manual door entry if the fob battery dies.
Same smart key design as the earlier QX80. Three buttons, push-button start, and a laser-cut emergency blade tucked inside the fob. The facelift changed the looks of the SUV, not the key.

Your laser-cut NSN14 emergency blade is wearing down, and now it barely turns in the door cylinder or gets stuck halfway in. This is common on 2018 and newer QX80s with higher mileage, the precision cuts on a laser blade are shallow to begin with. Can You Program a QX80 Key on Your Own?
No self-programming option exists for these years. The NATS immobilizer requires OBD-II diagnostic equipment and a dealer PIN code. There is no key-in-ignition trick or button sequence that works.
Same story here. Infiniti did not add any on-board programming capability with the facelift. You need professional tools and PIN access to register a new Intelligent Key to your vehicle.
