2017 Infiniti QX80
Key Replacement - Save vs Dealer in San Diego

2017 Infiniti QX80 Smart Key Replacement - Fast, Affordable & Professional

I was parked in the underground structure off West San Ysidro Boulevard one afternoon, finishing up notes from a previous call, when the next job came in from San Ysidro Village. Owner of a 2017 QX80 had lost her spare fob and wanted a backup made before she was running on one key only. She had the primary still working. Smart move getting ahead of it.

When I pulled up she was standing outside the garage entrance. We went in together and she wanted to watch the whole thing, which I always appreciate. People who watch tend to ask better questions.

I started by confirming the fob details against her original, verified the cut needed for the emergency blade, and got that cut on the machine. Then I connected my diagnostic equipment to the OBD port, ran the security access sequence to pull the PIN, and added the new fob to the system. The original stayed registered, which matters. Some owners worry a new key wipes the one they already have. It does not, as long as the job is done correctly.

I tested every button on the new fob. All door locks, the rear liftgate, the panic. Then I walked the perimeter and tested handle detection at each door. Then started the engine three times with the new key.

She asked how long I had been doing Nissan-platform vehicles. I told her about eight years. She nodded like that was the answer she was waiting for.

From arrival to packed up and done was right around 35 minutes. She saved a good chunk compared to the dealer route, which on a QX80 also comes with a multi-day wait since they often have to order the fob.
