Q70 Key Security, Generation by Generation
3.7L V6 (FGA34)
Infiniti built this generation on the FM platform and gave it the NATS immobilizer with an ID46 transponder chip. That means your smart key communicates with the car through encrypted rolling codes, and programming requires an OBD-II connection to the vehicle's computer. No shortcuts, no workarounds, but we handle it in your driveway with the right tools.
5.6L V8 (Y51)
Infiniti stepped things up here with a larger 5.6L V8 powertrain, but the key system stayed identical to the V6. Same ID46 chip, same NATS immobilizer, same 3-button smart key with a CR2032 battery. The hybrid models may need an additional ECU sync during programming, which adds a few minutes but nothing we have not done hundreds of times.
Q70L Long Wheelbase
The Q70L stretched the wheelbase for more rear legroom, but the security system is the same NATS platform with an ID46 transponder. Door and ignition modules are specific to the long wheelbase, so we verify your VIN before we roll out. Same smart key, same programming process, same result.
What Key Does Your Q70 Actually Use?
A rectangular black fob with the Infiniti logo, a hidden emergency metal blade that slides out from the side, and push-button start. Walk up to your Q70, grab the door handle, and it unlocks automatically.
Identical fob to the V6 model. Same 3-button layout, same emergency blade, same CR2032 battery. The hybrid powertrain does not change anything about the key itself.
Same smart key as the standard Q70. The long wheelbase model uses identical fob hardware and the same NATS security system. No differences in the key.

Why Drivers Pick Us Over the Dealer
Same Autel IM608 and the same NATS PIN procedure the Infiniti service desk uses, just at your address in Rancho Bernardo or your apartment lot in Mission Valley. Marco finishes in an hour, not a week.
Problems We See on the Infiniti Q70
Smart Key Fob Battery Drain
Q70 proximity antennas are always listening, even parked overnight in a Coronado garage. Drains the CR2032 fast, sometimes months instead of a year. Marco swaps cells curbside in Hillcrest or Escondido in under a minute.
NATS Immobilizer Sync Failure
Q70 will not start, security light blinking. Happens after dead battery, jump start, or no obvious reason. NATS lost sync with your key's ID46 chip and needs an OBD-II relearn. We handle on-site in El Cajon or Escondido.
Proximity Sensor False Triggers
People assume the door handle sensors are failing when their Q70 randomly locks, unlocks, or sets off the alarm. The real problem is the key fob sending weak or erratic signals, often from a dying battery or corroded battery contacts inside the fob. We test the fob signal strength first before recommending any hardware replacement.
High Security Blade Wear
We check the emergency blade first; the laser-cut profile wears down faster than most realize. A worn blade turns the ignition but does not engage, causing intermittent no-starts that mimic electrical. We cut fresh on-site and test.
Can You Program a Q70 Key on Your Own?
No DIY programming available. The NATS immobilizer requires a professional diagnostic tool connected to the OBD-II port for transponder registration. You cannot add or replace keys without dealer-level equipment.
Same as the V6. No self-programming method exists for the hybrid Q70. The ID46 chip must be registered through the NATS system using professional tools.
Identical to the standard Q70. The long wheelbase model uses the same NATS security, and there is no owner-level programming procedure. Call us and we will handle it mobile.

Worth Knowing
Most San Diego Q70 owners do not realize Infiniti split the Q70 lineup so the V8 trim and the Hybrid trim use completely different powertrains: a 5.6L non-hybrid V8 on one side and a 3.5L V6 hybrid on the other. The Intelligent Key, though, is the same NATS-paired fob on both, which is why Marco can handle either trim at your address in Mira Mesa or Carlsbad with the same tool stack.
