EZ Car Keyz vs. the Dealer
Our San Diego County customers leave reviews because the experience earned it. Here is how the numbers compare.
Which Key Does Your Q70 Use?
A rectangular black fob with the Infiniti logo, a hidden emergency metal blade that slides out from the side, and push-button start. Walk up to your Q70, grip the door handle, and proximity detection unlocks it automatically.
Identical fob to the V6 model. Same three-button layout, same emergency metal blade, same CR2032 battery. The larger engine or hybrid powertrain does not change anything about the key itself.
Same smart key as the standard Q70. The long wheelbase model uses the same fob hardware and the same factory immobilizer setup. No differences in the key you carry or how it behaves at the door.
Q70 Key Technology at a Glance
V6 Smart Key (2014-2019)
Every Q70 with the V6 engine uses a push-to-start smart key that communicates with the car through encrypted rolling codes managed by the factory immobilizer. Programming a new key means connecting dealer-grade programming equipment to the OBD-II port and completing a proper registration sequence. There are no shortcuts and no workarounds, and that is exactly why owners in San Diego County trust a certified technician to handle it rather than guessing at home.
V8 Smart Key (2014-2019)
The V8-powered Q70 carries the same smart key system as the V6. The transponder chip, the rolling code encryption, and the OBD-II programming process are identical. The hybrid variants may require an additional module sync during programming, which adds a few minutes to the job. Same key hardware, same CR2032 battery, same certified process.
Q70L Long Wheelbase Smart Key (2014-2019)
Infiniti stretched the Q70L for rear-seat space, but the key system is the same as the standard model. The door and ignition modules are specific to the long wheelbase body, so we confirm your VIN before dispatching to make sure we bring the right key blank. Once we verify that, the programming process runs the same way as any other Q70.

Common Q70 Key Problems
Smart Key Battery Draining Fast
The proximity sensors in your Q70 are always listening for the key, even when the car sits parked for days. That constant communication eats through a CR2032 faster than most owners expect, sometimes within a few months. If you're swapping batteries more than twice a year, we can check whether a sensor is pulling excess power or whether the fob internals need attention.
Factory Immobilizer Sync Failure
The car won't start and the security light is blinking on the dash. It happens after a dead battery, a jump start, or sometimes with no obvious trigger at all. The factory immobilizer lost sync with the transponder chip in your key, and it needs an OBD-II relearn to get the two communicating again. We handle this on-site anywhere in San Diego County, whether you're off the I-5 or out past the 805.
Proximity Sensor False Triggers
If your Q70 is randomly locking, unlocking, or setting off the alarm, most people assume the door handle sensors are the problem. More often the fob is sending weak or erratic signals, usually because the battery is low or the contacts inside are corroded. We test fob signal strength first before recommending any hardware replacement, which saves you money on parts you may not need.
High-Security Blade Wear
The laser-cut emergency blade on these fobs wears faster than most owners realize. A worn blade may turn the ignition cylinder without fully engaging it, causing intermittent no-start conditions that look like an electrical fault. We inspect the blade first, and if that's the issue, we cut a fresh one on-site and test it in the cylinder before closing out the job.
Can You Program a Q70 Key Yourself?
No DIY option exists for the V6 Q70. The factory immobilizer requires dealer-grade programming equipment connected to the OBD-II port to register a transponder chip. No button sequence, no ignition trick, nothing you can do without the right tools. That's what we bring to your driveway.
Same answer for the V8 and hybrid models. There is no owner-accessible programming procedure. The transponder chip must be registered through the factory immobilizer using professional equipment, and we carry exactly that.
The Q70L long wheelbase is no different. Identical security setup, no self-programming path. Call us and we'll handle the full job on-site in San Diego County.

Did You Know?
The Q70's factory immobilizer uses rolling code encryption that generates a new authentication signal every time you start the car. On some 2017 and newer models, programming a replacement key requires the programming tool to authenticate with a remote server to produce valid credentials. It's one of the more sophisticated anti-theft approaches Infiniti put into a production sedan, and it's part of why a certified technician with the right equipment is the only reliable path to a working key.
