2018 Infiniti Q70
Key Replacement - Save vs Dealer in San Diego

2018 Infiniti Q70 Smart Key Replacement - Fast, Affordable & Professional

I was parked near Live Oak Park Area on a Tuesday when I got the call. The owner had a 2018 Infiniti Q70 and had been dealing with an on-and-off warning for about two weeks. Key wasn't being detected consistently. Some mornings it worked fine. Some mornings he had to sit there and wait a beat before the car would respond.

He'd already done some reading. He knew his fob ran a CR2032. He'd swapped it himself, which was the right first move. The new battery helped for about a week, then the same thing came back.

When I got there, I opened the fob and looked at the battery contacts. The swap had been done cleanly, but one of the contact clips had a slight outward bow to it, not making full contact with the cell. That kind of thing is easy to miss. A quick adjustment, reseated the battery, and I retested at all four door positions and at the push-button.

Better, but not fully clean. The detection at the driver door handle was still a half-second slow compared to the others. That told me the fob was borderline and the contact fix alone wasn't going to hold long-term.

I built a fresh replacement on site, programmed it through the OBD port, and confirmed the original fob was still enrolled as a backup so he wasn't left with just one key. Ran every button, three start cycles, and walked the perimeter checking all detection zones.

He mentioned he'd called the dealer first. They'd quoted him a wait for an appointment and a parts order. By the time I was packing up, he was already late for lunch, which he said was a better problem to have.
