2017 Infiniti Q70
Key Replacement - Save vs Dealer in San Diego

Q: Can you delete a lost or stolen fob from my Q70 so it can't start the car anymore?

Yes, and it's worth doing immediately if a fob went missing or was stolen. The way the Q70's key registration works, the system holds a list of enrolled fobs. When we reprogram, we can clear that list entirely and only re-register the fobs physically present during the session. Any fob not in that room stops working. It won't unlock the doors, won't communicate with the immobilizer, and won't start the car.

Q: Does my Q70 Intelligent Key have a hidden emergency blade inside it?

It does. There's a small mechanical release on the fob housing. Press it and the blade slides out. That blade fits the lock cylinder on the driver door, which on the Q70 is tucked behind a small cover on the door handle pull area. Pop the cover off, insert the blade, and you can manually unlock the door even if the battery is completely dead or the smart key system isn't responding.

Q: I bought a replacement fob online for my Q70. Can I program it myself or do I need a locksmith?

You need a locksmith or a shop with the right diagnostic equipment. There is no DIY programming sequence for the Q70 smart key. No ignition turns, no button combinations, no onboard relearn. The fob has to be enrolled through the OBD port using professional tools that can communicate with the vehicle's security system. If the fob shell and electronics match the factory ID for your vehicle, it can be paired.

Q: The push-button start on my Q70 is hit or miss. Sometimes it works, sometimes it just flashes and does nothing. Is the fob dying?

That intermittent behavior is one of the more common Q70 owner complaints, and a weak fob battery is the most frequent cause. A CR2032 that reads as "not dead" on a basic tester can still drop enough voltage under load that the start button loses confidence in the signal. Swap the battery first.

2017 Infiniti Q70 Smart Key Replacement - Fast, Affordable & Professional

Out in East Valley, a woman flagged me down in a parking lot near a row of restaurants off Centre City Parkway. She had a 2017 Infiniti Q70 and zero spares. Her only fob had been working, but lately the car was slow to recognize it at the door, and she wanted a backup cut and programmed before her luck ran out completely.

She mentioned she found me because a review she read described an Infiniti job in actual detail. Not just stars, but the parking lot, the model, how long it took. That specificity was what convinced her to call.

I set up on the tailgate of my van and pulled the dealer part number off her existing fob to confirm I had the right shell. Then I connected to the OBD port, read out the security data, enrolled the new fob alongside the original, and cut the emergency blade to match her door. Four buttons, blade, push-button start. I walked every function: lock, unlock, trunk release, and three start cycles from different distances across the lot.

The original fob was just a little battery fatigue. New CR2032, reseated the contact, and her range came back clean.

She had both keys in hand inside forty minutes. The dealer had quoted her a wait time of several days just to order the part. She saved a good chunk and kept her afternoon.

Infiniti Q70 Mobile Service FAQ

Real costs, no dealer surprises

What is the cheapest way to handle all-keys-lost on my 2017 Infiniti Q70?▼

Call a mobile locksmith instead of going to the dealer and arranging a tow. All-keys-lost on the Q70 means no fob is enrolled, so the car won't start, but that doesn't mean you need a flatbed. I come to the vehicle, connect to the diagnostic port, read the security data, and enroll fresh keys on site. The old fobs get wiped in the same process, so anything lost or missing can't start the car afterward.
