G37 Key Replacement Pricing in San Diego County
Your quoted price covers the smart key fob, high-security blade cutting, OBD-II programming, and a full test before we pack up. All-keys-lost jobs cost more because they require a complete factory immobilizer reset - we'll tell you that number up front, not after we're done.
Which Key Does Your G37 Take?
A black fob with the Infiniti logo and three buttons: lock, unlock, and trunk. A hidden emergency blade slides out from the back for manual door entry when the battery is dead.
Same fob design as the early coupe. Black with chrome trim, three buttons, and a concealed high-security blade. Works across both body styles with no differences in the key itself.
Infiniti kept the fob design unchanged through the end of the G37 run. Three buttons, a CR2032 battery, and a hidden emergency blade. Identical to every other G37 smart key.
The convertible uses the same fob as the coupe and sedan. Same three buttons, same blade, same battery. No differences in the key regardless of which body style you drive.
How the G37 Key System Changed Over the Years
Smart Key - Coupe (2008-2009)
The earliest G37 coupe arrived with a 3-button smart key and push-button start standard on higher trims. Inside the fob sits a transponder chip that communicates with the factory immobilizer, and there's a high-security laser-cut emergency blade tucked away for manual entry. Programming new keys requires connecting dealer-grade programming equipment to the OBD-II port, so there's no shortcut around a professional visit.
Smart Key - Coupe and Sedan (2010-2011)
Infiniti extended the G37 lineup to include both coupe and sedan body styles across these years while keeping the same transponder chip and factory immobilizer setup. The 3-button smart key with push-button start carried over unchanged. IPL trims may look slightly different on the fob exterior, but the programming procedure is identical to the earlier coupe.
Smart Key - Facelift (2012-2013)
Infiniti refreshed the G37's styling for the final two model years but left the key system alone. Same transponder chip, same factory immobilizer, same 3-button smart key with high-security blade, same OBD-II programming process, same CR2032 battery. If you've got a 2012 or 2013, nothing about the key situation changed from the earlier cars.
Smart Key - Convertible (2009-2013)
The G37 convertible with its retractable hardtop shares the exact same smart key system as the coupe and sedan. Transponder chip, factory immobilizer, 3-button fob, high-security blade - all identical. The folding roof adds complexity to the car itself, but the key setup is straightforward and handled the same way we handle every other G37.

Common G37 Smart Key Problems
Smart Key Battery Failure
When your G37 won't start or the doors stop responding to the fob, the first thing we check is the CR2032 battery. The proximity system puts a steady low drain on that cell, so batteries die sooner than most owners expect. Swapping one out takes under a minute. If a fresh battery doesn't solve it, we move straight into diagnostics without charging you extra to figure out what's going on.
Transponder Sync Loss
On 2010-2013 G37s, swapping the fob battery can sometimes knock the transponder chip out of sync with the factory immobilizer. The key looks fine, the battery is new, but the car refuses to recognize it. Getting things back in order means running an OBD-II relearn procedure to re-register the key - not something you can sort out in a parking lot without professional equipment.
High-Security Blade Wear
If your G37's emergency blade is starting to stick in the door cylinder or won't turn cleanly, the laser-cut edge has likely worn down from regular use. We cut a fresh blade on-site, matched precisely to your lock, so manual entry works the way it's supposed to again.
Proximity Sensor Failure
On 2011-2013 G37s, the sensors inside the door handles can fail, which kills passive entry even when the fob itself is perfectly healthy. Before you spend money replacing a key that doesn't need replacing, we can tell you whether the problem is in the fob or in the door handle hardware.
Can You Program a G37 Smart Key at Home?
Not for any 2008-2009 G37. The factory immobilizer requires dealer-grade programming equipment connected to the OBD-II port to register a new smart key. Infiniti did not build any self-programming procedure into these cars.
Same answer for 2010-2011 models. Adding or replacing a smart key requires professional tools that can communicate with the vehicle through OBD-II. There's no workaround and no sequence of button presses that gets it done without equipment.
The 2012-2013 facelift didn't change anything about how keys are programmed. Professional OBD-II equipment is still the only way to get a new smart key registered on these cars.
The convertible runs the same factory immobilizer setup as every other G37. No DIY option exists. You need a locksmith or a dealer with proper OBD-II programming capability to get a new key working.

Did You Know?
Most G37 owners don't realize how long Infiniti's factory immobilizer technology has been around. The basic architecture traces back to anti-theft systems Nissan first introduced in the 1990s, and that same core approach carried through every G37 that rolled off the line in 2013. Close to two decades of refinement went into the security system sitting in your driveway right now.
