370Z Key Pricing in San Diego County
The price covers the smart key blank, high-security blade cutting, transponder programming with on-site testing, and the trip to your location anywhere in San Diego County.
Which Key Does Your 370Z Use?
A proximity smart key with push-button start. A hidden high-security emergency blade folds inside for manual entry when the battery goes dead.
Same smart key as the earlier cars. Three buttons, same high-security blade, same CR2032 battery. NISMO models use the identical key system as the base trim.
The physical fob looks and works the same as the previous years. The difference is in how the factory immobilizer handles programming on the back end, not in the key you carry.
How the 370Z Key System Changed Over the Years
Smart Key (2009-2012)
Every 370Z from this first run shipped with a 3-button smart key and push-button start right out of the gate. Inside the fob sits a transponder chip that handshakes with the factory immobilizer each time you press the start button. Programming goes through the OBD-II port, which means we can take care of the whole job on-site without sending you to a dealership. Same-day service is the norm for these early cars.
Smart Key (2013-2016)
Nissan carried the same 3-button smart key and transponder setup into the mid-run, including NISMO trim cars. Nothing changed on the key system side, so the programming approach stayed the same: OBD-II, on-site, done the day you call. The fob still runs a CR2032 battery and the blade is still the high-security laser-cut type. Consistency here works in your favor when you need a quick turnaround in San Diego County.
Smart Key (2017-2020)
The final production years kept the same 3-button smart key and the same CR2032 battery, but Nissan introduced server authentication to the programming process on some of these cars. That step adds a little time to the job, though we carry the dealer-grade programming equipment needed to handle it. Same-day service is still available; the appointment just runs a bit longer than on earlier models.

Common 370Z Key Problems
Smart Key Battery Failure
The first thing we check is the CR2032 battery in your fob. The 370Z tends to drain fob batteries quicker than most cars, particularly if the fob rides in your pocket alongside your phone or if the car gets driven often. Swapping in a fresh battery takes about two minutes and costs almost nothing, so we always rule that out before assuming anything else is wrong.
Immobilizer Sync Loss
A lot of 370Z owners assume the fob is broken when the real cause is the transponder chip and the factory immobilizer falling out of sync. This happens frequently on 2009 to 2016 cars after a dead battery or a jump start. The fix is OBD-II reprogramming to re-establish communication between the key and the car. We handle that on-site wherever you are parked in San Diego County, from Chula Vista to Escondido.
High-Security Blade Wear
If your emergency blade feels loose in the door cylinder or does not turn as smoothly as it used to, the laser-cut blade is probably worn down. This is common on 2013 to 2020 cars where the blade sees regular use. We cut precise replacement blades on-site with the right equipment, so a worn blade is a quick fix rather than a reason to replace the entire fob.
EZ Car Keyz vs. the Dealer
The dealer orders the part, schedules you out days, then bills you twice what the job is worth. We arrive ready to cut and program on the spot.
Can You Program a 370Z Key Yourself?
On 2009 to 2012 models, you can pair the remote lock and unlock buttons using a key-cycle procedure, but that only covers the remote functions. The transponder chip that actually lets the car start requires OBD-II programming with professional tools. The DIY route will not get your car running.
Same story for 2013 to 2016 cars. The remote button pairing trick works at home, but the factory immobilizer will not accept a new transponder chip without diagnostic equipment. That half of the job needs a locksmith.
On 2017 to 2020 cars, remote button pairing is still possible at home, but transponder programming may also require server authentication on top of OBD-II access. This is firmly not a DIY job, and attempting shortcuts can leave the key stuck in a partially programmed state.

Did You Know?
The 370Z holds a distinction that almost no other modern sports car can claim. It was the last production car to pair a naturally aspirated V6 with a manual transmission. When the final 2020 model rolled out of production, that combination disappeared from new-car showrooms entirely.
