2014 Nissan 370z
Key Replacement - Save vs Dealer in San Diego

Q: How much more does all-keys-lost cost compared to just adding a spare?

More involved, yes. When you have a working key, adding a spare is a shorter registration job. All-keys-lost means clearing the immobilizer's key memory entirely and re-enrolling from zero, which takes more time and more steps through the diagnostic port. On a 2014 370z, that process has a timed sequence built in that can't be rushed. The real lesson: get a spare made while you still have a working key.

Q: Are aftermarket 370z fobs cheaper and will they actually work?

Cheaper upfront, sometimes, but the 2014 370z Intelligent Key system is picky about what it accepts. Some owners have had luck with aftermarket fobs from reputable suppliers. Others bought cheap fobs online and could not register them, because the internals were not built to spec or the board did not match the shell. The mechanical insert blade matters too, since the wrong profile will not turn the cylinder. We carry tested fobs, not a $30 gamble.

Q: My 370z starts fine but the door handle touch unlock stopped working. Is the key the problem?

Probably not the fob. If the car starts and the other buttons on the fob respond normally, the key itself is almost certainly fine. Touch unlock on the 370z door handles relies on a capacitive sensor in the handle that detects your hand, separate from the fob's button functions. Those sensors can get dirty, corroded, or fail on their own. Try wiping down the handle area and retesting.

Q: Can I program a replacement 370z Intelligent Key myself at home?

No. The 2014 370z does not have an onboard self-programming sequence for the Intelligent Key system. There's no ignition-cycling trick, no button combination that enrolls a new fob. That approach only exists on older Nissan models with basic transponder keys in an ignition cylinder. The Intelligent Key system requires diagnostic equipment connected through the OBD port to register a new fob to the immobilizer.

2014 Nissan 370z Smart Key Replacement - Fast, Affordable & Professional

Out in the Sweetwater area of National City, I got a call from a guy who'd been fishing most of the morning near the boat launch. Somewhere between the dock and his car, his only key to his 2014 370z disappeared.

He checked the bait shop, retraced the path twice, nothing. The car was sitting in the lot and he had no way in, no spare, no backup plan. He figured he was stuck there until he could get a dealer appointment on Monday. I told him I'd be there that afternoon.

When I arrived, the 370z was right where he left it. I worked the door lock mechanically, decoded it, and cut a new blade to match. That gets you into the car. The harder part is the immobilizer side.

All-keys-lost on a 2014 370z with the Intelligent Key system means the previous key records need to be cleared and new keys registered fresh through the diagnostic port. No original key present, no shortcut around the process. I ran the sequence, enrolled the new fob, and tested every function: door handles, start button, the lock and unlock buttons, the insert key in the door. Everything confirmed.

Then I cut a spare on the spot, because that's how he ended up here in the first place.

He drove out of the same lot he'd been stranded in. The dealer was going to be a tow plus a Monday appointment plus a quote he wasn't thrilled about. He saved a good chunk, and more importantly, he didn't lose the whole weekend.

Nissan 370z Mobile Service FAQ

Real costs, no dealer surprises

What is the cheapest way to replace my 2014 370z key?▼

Call a mobile locksmith before you call the dealer. Nissan dealers typically charge separately for the fob itself, the blade cutting, and the programming labor, and on an Intelligent Key setup like the 2014 370z, that adds up fast. With EZ Car Keyz, you get one price that covers everything: the fob, the cut blade, and the full programming done at your location. No tow, no appointment days out, no getting nickel-and-dimed on each line item.
