That only handles the lock and unlock buttons; the key itself needs no programming at all.
For 2005-2012 Pathfinders you can self-program the keyless entry remote buttons using the same ignition cycle approach. However, the transponder chip inside the key head is a separate matter entirely. Registering that chip to the factory immobilizer requires professional equipment and your vehicle's security PIN. So you can get the lock buttons working on your own, but you still need a professional to make the key start the engine.
No DIY path exists for 2013-2020 Pathfinder smart keys. The proximity fob requires a diagnostic port connection plus a live server authentication step. Without the right equipment and an active subscription to the relevant programming network, there is no way to register the fob to the vehicle.
