1999 Nissan Pathfinder Transponder Key Replacement - Fast, Affordable & Professional
Out near the Lake Poway Area, a woman called about a 1999 Nissan Pathfinder that wouldn't start. She'd bought it used a few years back, got one key with it, and never ordered a spare.
The key itself looked fine at first. But she'd been keeping it on a heavy ring, and the head had developed a hairline crack right at the base. The blade was still intact and turned the cylinder. The engine would crank, catch for a second, then cut out immediately. Every time.
That two-second start-and-stall is a tell. The blade works but the transponder chip isn't talking to the antenna ring the way it should. I pulled the key head apart carefully since the chip inside was likely still good even if the housing was cracked.
The chip read clean. Because the original was intact, I didn't have to go through a full all-keys-lost procedure, which takes longer and costs more. I cloned the chip data into a new key, cut a replacement blade to match her lock, and had the Pathfinder starting normally in about 35 minutes.
I cut her a second one while I was there. She said she'd been meaning to do that since she bought it. Two working keys, done in the Lake Poway Area, for a fraction of what the dealer quoted her when she called them first.
