EZ Car Keyz vs. the Dealer for Your Nissan Cube Key
You get the same result either way: a correctly programmed key, tested and confirmed working. The difference is that we come to your location anywhere in San Diego County and charge roughly half what a dealer quotes, without the tow or the waiting room.
Which Key Fits Your Nissan Cube?
A physical key with lock, unlock, and trunk buttons built into the head. Insert it into the ignition to start the car and press the buttons to work the doors remotely.
A pocket fob that lets your Cube detect you at the door handle and start with a button press. A hidden mechanical blade is tucked inside for when the battery runs low.
Same style as the early remote head key. If your Cube has a traditional ignition slot rather than a start button, this is your key regardless of model year.
How the Nissan Cube Key Evolved from 2009 to 2014
Remote Head Key (2009-2011)
This is a conventional key you insert and turn, but there is a transponder chip inside the plastic head that must communicate with the factory immobilizer before the engine will fire. No chip handshake, no start. The fob also carries three remote buttons for lock, unlock, and trunk. The remote functions and the transponder are programmed through two separate processes, which is a detail that trips up a lot of shops. We know the difference and handle both in one visit.
Smart Key with Push-Button Start (2012-2014, SL and Krom Trims)
Nissan added proximity entry and push-to-start to the higher trims starting in 2012. The fob stays in your pocket; you press the brake, hit the button, and the Cube starts. There is still a transponder chip inside that the factory immobilizer checks, so professional programming equipment is required. The fob also has four remote buttons and a hidden mechanical blade you can slide out when the battery dies and the proximity system stops responding.
Remote Head Key, Base and S Trims (2009-2014)
Not every Cube got the push-button upgrade. Base and S trim models carried the traditional remote head key through the entire production run. Same three-button layout, same transponder chip inside, same programming requirement. If your Cube has a key slot in the ignition, this is what you have. It is the most straightforward key we program on this model, and it is well within our same-day range anywhere in San Diego County.

Common Nissan Cube Key Problems We See in San Diego
Key Fob Battery Drain
The smart key fob on 2012-2014 SL and Krom trims runs a constant proximity search, which burns through CR2032 batteries faster than most owners expect. If the push-button start stops responding or the doors quit unlocking on approach, a fresh battery is usually the fix. We carry CR2032s on every call and test the fob before we leave so you know it is sorted.
Programming a New Key Wipes Your Existing Keys
This is one of the most common surprises Cube owners run into. When a new transponder key is programmed, the factory immobilizer clears every previously registered key from its memory. Any key not present during the programming session stops working. If a shop in San Diego or anywhere else programmed your new key without telling you to bring all your existing keys, that is why you now have spares that do nothing. We reprogram all your keys together in one session, every time, so nothing gets left out.
Warning Lights That Look Like Immobilizer Faults
Disturbing wiring or connectors near the steering column, even for something unrelated to the key like a stereo install, can trigger warning lights on 2009-2014 Cubes that look exactly like an immobilizer or key failure. Before recommending any key work, we check for fault codes first. There is no point paying for a new key when the real cause is a loose connector behind the dash.
Can You Program a Nissan Cube Key at Home?
The transponder chip that authorizes the engine to start requires dealer-grade programming equipment connected to the OBD port and a PIN code retrieved from the vehicle's computer. There is no DIY sequence for this step. A locksmith or dealer is required, and there is no shortcut around it.
The remote buttons are a different story. If you already have a working transponder key, you can pair the lock and unlock functions yourself using a door cylinder sequence. That process only registers the remote buttons, though. It does nothing for the chip that lets the engine start. We handle both steps together on every call so you are not making a second trip.
