Probably not the fob itself. If the start button is still recognizing the key and you can start the car normally, the fob is most likely fine.

Intermittent touch unlock on these is a known annoyance that owners report on forums. A few things to check first: the CR2032 battery level, because a low battery degrades range before it kills the fob entirely; the handle sensor area, because dirt and grime on the touch zone can cause inconsistent reads; and whether it's one door or both, because if it's isolated to the driver's side handle, that points to the handle sensor or its wiring rather than anything wrong with the key. Replace the battery, wipe down the handle, and retest. If it's still flaky on one specific door after that, the fob is probably not your problem.

I bought a replacement fob online for my 2009 Cube. Can I program it myself?

There is no ignition-turn sequence or button trick that adds a new fob on a smart key vehicle like this. That type of onboard relearn only exists on older bladed transponder key setups, which is a completely different system.
